All of a sudden my computer wont turn on. The green light on the power supply comes on and stays solid when I plug the computer into the wall, however the second I press the power button the light goes off and NOTHING! The computer wont start. I can hear the fans start for a second though when I press the power button. Can anyone help, please?

Sounds to me as if your PSU is dead.
It would not hurt to check it out, Test Power Supply (Post by Sneakycyber) -

Thanks.
So even though the green light on the PSU is on, it could still be a bad PSU?
What is the green light for anyway?

Well...think of it this way...I can lift 5lbs easily, I can lift 50lbs with some effort...I cannot lift 500lbs.
A light being on means that there is some current flowing...but maybe not enough to boot the system and run it.
Which is why I would try a different PSU.

Thanks. Good to know. Could you tell me what kind of info I'll need to know about my computer when I go to buy a new power supply?

What is the make and model number of your computer?

Just a note...before you think about buying a new component...it's always wise to test the old component first.
Nothing like having new components that are unneeded

It is an HP Pavilion a1477c (Media center TV, don't know if that matters)
Is it fairly easy to test the PSU? Other than blowing the dust off, I've never really done anything inside the case.
