My friend 's Dell Lapto is at starting is making a frying noise, . .

can anyone tell me what this might be a symptom of ?

Also there is another problem at start up as follows, . .

the Message with the RED X and it states that Cannot Load the dll CnxtSdk.dll after closing that message the next one up is another RED X Message;
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142). Click OK to terminate the application.

Could these be related ?

But I think this is just one of the generic "something failed" messages MS is so rife with. The dll message seems to indicate the wrong modem driver has been installed.

I have a similar issue with a clients connexant modem in an HP. She is not ready to nuke and reload so she just gets along with no working sound (software modem uses the sound card DSP so it buggers the sound too) I have tried every way I know to remove the drivers but the system locks up when I try within the device mgr and I can't do anything more intrusive until I get her to find her recovery disks and back up her stuff.

And concerning the frying sound.... does it sound like a modem ? That has been described as a frying sound back before v42.

So yes it is plausible that all three things are related. But the links are tenuous.

Have you tried un installingthe entire modem set up ?

It could indicate that the monitor is getting ready to die on you. If it's a CRT I'd suggest you replace it, as it may become a fire hazard.

i can hear sounds and music but if i turn off the music its making a frying and static sound. i actually hea that frying sound behind the music sounds ect. anyone can help?

Most lilely your microphone is plugged in and active still. Disable it if so. If not, check for other cables, particularly power cables, wrapped around or touching the audio cables. Also check for any damage to the cables.

Some cheap motherboards have badly done "on-board" soundcards, where the other parts of the motherboard cause interference on the soundcards outputs. In my experience USB activity and static noise go together on anything Dell, Gateway, HP or ASUS produce.
