Hello, I am having issues with my laptop. I have an Acer Aspire 5735-4774. I use Vista Home Premium for 32bit. I use Mozilla because IE8 is not compatible with Google toolbar. I turned off IE8 but I still have it. I would rather not go back to IE, because I didn't realize what a headache it was until I stopped using it. I was using ATT Internet Security Suite, but I moved from Ga to MN, and am no longer affiliated with the company that allowed me to use the ATT Suite. So, I decided to switch to Microsoft Security Essentials, and I have uninstalled and reinstalled it 4 times now. I went to their Help website and ran accesschk.exe and checked the COM settings, which were already at the recommended settings. The application asked me to remove all antivirus software, which I have tried to, but Malwarebytes will not go off of my Uninstall Programs List - I can't run it either, but I am wondering if this is a problem.
Also, I get an error message sometimes when I start my laptop that says 'Windows has encountered a critical error and will close in one minute'. At which time I have to do a system restore, and it works for a few times, and then it does it again. When I googled this error, I got an answer saying that an Active-X control from a financial something or other in Brazil was corrupted and I could remove it. But, when I went to the listing, I didn't have that control! So, do I just keep system restoring, or is there another solution that I cannot find?
And, is there a better way in regards to protecting my laptop? MSE has gotten good reviews, and I wanted to try it primarily because I am not employed right now and it is free - I am leery of anything Microsoft puts out, but I was willing to try it because of the surprisingly good feedback.
Maybe I just didn't get everything off??
