I've been waiting for Windows 7 to be released before getting a new laptop. Wanted to avoid Vista or the Vista/Windows 7 upgrade mess.

I would like to spend $1000 or less.

Primary user for this one is my wife. She like to play Pogo, Facebook (Farmville), and similar games. I believe these are JAVA and/or Flash based games. Very little if any 'hard core' games - no 'World of Warcraft' or such, maybe some 'Sam & Max' type games.

In addition, uses would include email, web browsing, MS office programs, some music and picture storage. HDD of 250-320G would probably be adequate.

Looking for something 'state of the art' so that it won't become obsolete in a few years. Fast running JAVA and Flash apps, but does not need to be a hard-core gaming machine. Probably 16" screen, CD/DVD drive of some kind, 4 USB ports, 3 hour battery life would be nice...

I can't really find to much info about USB ports, but you can get a hub to get more ports.

I find the IdeaPad Y Series or ThinkPads pretty good. I choose these because I have a 3 year old (upgraded) ThinkPad R51e and it has served me well so far. I've even hit the screen pretty hard with I think was a PS3 controller, but after an initial scare, the screen was undamaged.

Lets see how you like this one;

Comes with:

Windows 7 Home Premium - 64bit

4 USB ports

320GB HDD

Has both wireless and wired internet capabilities.

Doesn't have the 16" you were looking for, 15.6" is the closest I could get.

Has a DVD drive smile.gif

Battery life is up too 3 hours

Does have a little power under the hood. (Care for me too break it down more than this?)

At the moment its 549.99$ But its not acually buyable until tomarrow, (I think, I don't know if you can buy it today)
