Is there a way to fix a broken or intermittently working scroll-wheel? It still works as a middle-button but does not scroll anymore. The mouse is a Logitech MX518.

Take it apart and remove all of the lint and crumbs is about all you can do unless you have a drawer full of old mice you can steal parts from

Watch out for the spring on the side of the wheel it flies out, took me 15 minutes to find it and longer to get it back in when I put it back together. For all the aggravation I will buy a new mouse next time.

Mouse came back today after probably two hours of using the computer and running the wheel forgetting it was broke while internet browsing. It does seem to be mechanical because the wheel feels different when its working than when it wasnt.

Just call Logitech, and tell them your mouse is borked, and they should send you a free one out. http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/support_...s/&cl=ca,en

Done it a few times with keyboards, but, won't be anymore as I'm switching back to MS kb/mouse combos.

As a followup to the issue the mouse now works great. Regarding the issue I have discovered the issue.

Do not bind your mousewheel aka middle-mouse button as a talk key for teamspeak/ventrilo or something else where it is going to be held down. I had bound the middle-mouse and thats what caused the issue was holding it down for a minute or two at a time repeatedly while using TeamSpeak. I am suspecting that holding down the mouse-wheel messes up the mechanics underneath it.

Thank you for posting back with your solution
That is good to know and hopefully help others with the same problem
