this seems to be a common problem with ubuntu, i have done many google searches on tutorials on how to get the sound working, but it either doesn't work (probably because i did it wrong) or i get lost among the instructions.. using the "terminal" and such is very confusing to me as i have no experience with coding and have never used this type of computer before.

all i have ever known was windows, unfortunately, i have never used linux/ubuntu ever before, i know absolutely nothing about it sad.gif
this computer was given to us for free, and the only flaw is that i cannot for the life of me seem to get any audio out of the speakers!
note: i have made sure the audio is plugged in, volume up ect...
EDIT: i am running version 9.04
im sure i have a sound card and the computer detects it, if anyone would like to know how any of my options are set, i can take some screenshots or just describe it.
any help is appreciated, thanks in advance

I have the same problem. I installed ubuntu 9.04 on my laptop (Asus G50V). I have sound from laptop speakers, but “jack” doesn’t work, so I can’t use headphones. “Jack” is working on windows.
Laptop has hda Intel soundcard.
I already have re-built ALSA and removed PULSE, but it doesn’t help. smile.gif
Do you have any ideas?

Try Linux Mint w/ real time kernal if you can find it, real time sonics are awesome!
