Bleeping Computer has set up a chat channel on IRC that you are all more than welcome to visit and hang out at.

Not only is this a great way to get quick help on a problem you may be having, but it will also allow all the members to get to know each other better. There are a few ways to reach the chat channel which I will discuss below.

If you use a desktop IRC client you can use the following information to reach our channel:

IRC Server: irc.wyldryde.org
IRC Port: 6667
IRC Channel: #BleepingComputer

If you use MIRC (which is an excellent Windows IRC client), you can click on the below link to automatically connect to our channel:

irc://irc.wyldryde.org/bleepingcomputer

We also have available a Java web program that will allow you to connect to the channel. This program can be found at the below link:

Bleeping Computer IRC Chat Information

Included in the above link are some excellent links on learning about IRC and how to use it.

Looking forward to seeing you there!

Been there done that nobody there.

Another board that has had some success with this has set two evenings a week as regular meeting times. Maybe you could pole everyone for suggested times?

Good ideah! Ok but I dont understand isnt this the same chat we have on the site already or is this different. Why would we need another chat thing?
Grinler
Its the same, but a lot of people do not know about it. The only reason why people are not there is because people come, see noone there, and then leave. It costs nothing to stay in the room and eventually people will start filling up there.

Hmm a caht I will do a search for an irc for linux

When i get home ill connect and just leave it going smile.gif If there is one person there others will stay connected as well. and sooner or later is will be buzzing away like the fourms.
Bluie
thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif all you smilie_colors1.gif some of us get mad.gif to see a gathering.gif but everyone there seems to be rip_1.gif and no one gives a icon_hello.gif or responds to a whistling.gif
Pandy
ohmy.gif Bluie. I am very sorry to see you were ignored in the chat. Sometimes people get busy. It might take a bit for someone to reply. If you wanted to talk to someone specific just type someone's name in the list and it will ding them and get their attention. I am sure no one meant any offense. I wish I had been there. sad.gif

Why is it down? All of a sudden everyone was disconnected or quit and i was the only one there. The chanserv bot wasnt even there?
Grinler
Sometimes the IRC server has problems. Try later, its out of BC's control

joking aside when people join and introduce themselves the people like myself who welcome them could post a link for the chat room like thismaybe the chatroom may get more and more busy, anyway just an idea thumbup2.gif

To be honest I have no idea what you mean by that mz30...on the last post.

try and explain a bit better when new members join and post in the introduction forum if people who use the chatroom post back e.g

hi such and such welcome to b.c
could i please direct you to our new user orienttion center
and also would like to make you aware of our wonderfulchatroom
it took me a few weeks here before i learned of the exsistence of the chatroom
this way new members are informed straight away thumbup2.gif
Pandy
Hmmm

mz30 I am not sure at all that you have connected correctly to the bc chatroom. Did you use an irc client? Or have you used the java applet that the site here provides. It just seems a bit odd that you would find noone there at all.. at any given time there are between 20 and 30 people there.
mz30
hi pandy when i done my original post i just could not see any chat after i started chatting replies were there
i was actually speaking to people my posts after that were intended to try and spread the word
lets try and get hundreds of people there thumbup2.gif
BlackSpyder

The bottom section of post #2 under the heading "Chat Clients" gives a nice list.
