how do i knw if my internal hard drive is PATA/IDE or SATA?
techextreme
Parallel ATA or "PATA" can be referenced here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parallel_ATA and SATA can be referenced here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SATA

You can also find out from your model number on your drive. Take the model number and manufacturer of your hard drive and post it here and we can also help you with identifying it that way.

Hope this helps,

The best place to look is within BIOS.

There are various other places you can look as well, such as Device Manager (Right-click My Computer, Left-click Properties) and System Information (Start>Programs>Accessories>System Utilities>System Information).

Or, take the side cover off and physically look at it. The plugs are quite different.

Here is a catalog of some plugs:

I hope this helps.
