I have a MSI mobo with a single core AMD processor. The mobo has a 24 pin power connector and I have a 20 pin power supply. Will this cause any problems? If so, should I get a new power supply or can i just get a 20 to 24 pin adaptor?

You can just plug the 20 pin connector into the motherboard. Ideally you would have the proper power supply or an adapter, but it isn't absolutely necessary. I have had my HTPC (built from all the spare parts I had laying around) running like this for about a month now with no problems.

The 4 addl pins are redundant, but handy if you have large draws on the mobo.
