Just want to know from you guys, what would you prefer to use today, Windows Vista or Xp?

DeathStalker
Vista.
MadDawg
XP for compatibility, Vista for eye candy.

My choice would be XP for Stability and ease of use.

Vista is much more stable than it was when new but can still "hiccup" on occasion.

Myself, I use XP for any machine that I "rely" on for day to day use.

But, I also use Windows Vista Ultimate and Windows Vista Business. Each has its pros and cons.

The ultimate choice... is completely yours. smile.gif

Hope this helps and doesn't confuse,

I have Vista on my two main machines and the only reason
I have XP on my kids computer is to play older games.

I wouldn't even think about going back to XP after using
Vista. All of my games and applications work perfectly in
my 64bit Vista.

I'm loving XP when I use my desktop, I mainly use my laptop with Vista, though. Had it for two years and thinking about trading down to XP operating system again. That's how much I don't like Vista. sad.gif

but im new to computers and have not realy used xp.

the funny thing is if you ask the same question in the xp forum you will probably get the opposite answers.

It's probably because your laptop hardware is insufficient to run Vista at it's full potential.

Vista's program warnings and the User Account Control can get annoying sometimes. But I like it because it's newer. But of course, XP has a much better reputation. I have XP on my older home computer (Dell Dimension 4700) and then I have Vista on my laptop (Dell Studio 1535)

Me too, but that wasn't an option in the original question. hysterical.gif

Well rumors have it that if you purchased Vista from Dell within a certain time period, that they will give you a free upgrade to Windows 7. That is only if you have purchased Home Premium or above

Still wait for 7.....okay Vista....only if I had to.

It all depends on the hardware in question. What processor, how much RAM, etc. Although you can install Vista on a machine with a mere 512 Meg RAM I wouldn't recommend it with anything less than 2 Gig. What software are you planning on running? With a 64bit processor such as the phenom and plenty of ram Vista by far but a P4 with only 768Meg definitely XP.

I have recently bought a laptop and have started using WinVista; after doing all the speed up tricks have it running quite nicely. Although, it does hang a little and my music skips a little, but my 1 GB RAM upgrade for my laptop is on its way. The main difference I noticed was how much RAM is hogs even though I have done all the speed up tricks and disabled many background processes. That's the main difference I notice but I used XP since is came out (and MAC OS X) and have got use to it. I gave the Performance app a try and it's depressing how it tells me how crap my computer is. As for eye candy, Vista is nothing compared to Mac OS X, although I do prefer the Classic theme which I am using now. Brings me back to the Windows 98 days!

What are the hardware specs of your laptop?

It's true Vista uses more memory than XP, but
it does more for the user in return.

You could try disabling the Search Indexing.

Yeah thanks I have disabled the Indexing as I find that useless for me (forgot to put that in my signature). It's a 2.0GHZ Intel Celeron, 1GB RAM (2MB L2 cache and 800 MHz FSB), 160 GB hard drive (more than enough for my needs), and that reminds me: I need to try out the built-in Bluetooth some time.
