I've been trying to install Microsoft Office 2007 Enterprise Edition on my Vista for days now but I ALWAYS end up getting this error:

I've searched for the answer and they all say go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall Microsoft .NET Framework then reinstall it. But that doesn't show in my programs.

I was then suggested to download THIS

I tried to install the 64Bit and I got this message:

I went into my 'Turn Windows features on or off' window and it was empty. From my understanding, it's not supposed to be.
So I Googled the problem and the answer I found was in THIS THREAD

Method 1 in the thread didn't work for me. My 'Turn Windows features on or off' window was still empty
Method 2 didn't work either. I got this error message when I tried to System Restore:

I was then told to download THIS

When I tried to download the first link, this is what I got:

Why am I having SOOOO many problems??

Did you post this at a different forum? I have answered the same post with the EXACT same attachments lol, but I don't remember where. I thought it was here and the mod with the propeller hat icon answered it as well.........

Try going to windows update to uninstall the .net and then re-install it.

EDIT: You DO have 64 bit Vista right?
CompuMechs
.net frequently gets corrupted, especially if there was a recent malware infection. Microsoft offers uninstall tools. One link is here http://www.microsoft.com/Downloads/details...;displaylang=en It is sometimes easier to uninstall all the .nets and then manually reinstall if Windows Updates keeps botching the job.

Thank you for responding. How do I tell what bit Vista I have?

Click the start button (little round thing at the bottom left hand corner that has the microsoft logo on it) then Control panel. From control panel select System.

When system opens up you will see information on your system. At the top it will say Windows Edition (tells you what version, IE: Ultimate, premium , Basic). Below that section it says:System. There it gives you that useless windows rating, tells you what type processor you have, how much RAM you have and the last line says: System Type. At system type it will either say 32 Bit or 64 bit operating system. Look there and tell me what it says please.

I know how to use a computer... I've been on one 24/7 since I was 15 (I'm 24). I just never had to interact with .NET.
Anywho, my comp is 32 Bit.
.NET Frameware refuses to show itself on my computer anywhere at anytime, what now?
DeathStalker
Click Update. Go to installed updates and see if ANY .Net is there. If so, uninstall it through the update screen. Let me know if you find it or don't find it, and if you find it there are able to uninstall it through the update screen.

EDIT: Don't sweat it if you don't find .NET. You said earlier you didn't think you had it lol. OS I'm just making sure. We'll use the Windows uninstaller tool on your office next if you can't find the .net.

In other words, Nope, I don't see it on my computer ANYWHERE

Sorry for the late reply, I've been busy today.

I found something new, well new to me at least. Apparently the .net framework is integrated into Vista and as such it will not show in add/delete programs. (or so I read). The only way it would show is if you had done one of the upgrades to it. It's too late for me to check on my computer as I have upgraded it a couple of times, and those upgrades show in add/delete programs. But...... the original doesn't so it sounds right.

Go to Start>Programs and features. In the left hand pane, at the bottom, you will see "Turn Windows features on or off." Click that and after it populates, see if it show the stupid .Net there.

Crap, I was just re checking some info and saw where you tried to go there and the list wouldn't populate and so you went to the MS solution page for that and IT didn't work either. Ok.......... hmmm.........

You said "I was then suggested to download THIS" with "THIS" being a link. I get a page load error from that link, when I right click "THIS" and hit properties it says: dotnetfx3setup.exe. Is THIS the same place? If so then I found the following info:

"2.6 Installation error when installing .NET Framework 3.0 packages on Vista

Windows Vista comes with .NET Framework 3.0. There is no separate installation package required. The standalone .NET Framework 3.0 packages are not supported on Vista." That came from HERE. Also you should NEVER attempt to install any X64 software on youre computer as you have the 32 bit Vista (which confusingly enough, is referred to as X86).

Alright, let me get some background here. Since you have NO updates at all, is this:

A: A new retail computer that came with Vista (less than a month old).
B: A computer that you built and did a clean install of Vista on.
C: An old computer that you put Vista on recently (less than a month).
D: A computer (new or old doesn't matter) that Vista has been on a while but you never did any updates.

Has Sp1 been installed? Versions of Vista for about the last 14 months or so come with SP1 so you wouldn't see it in the updates. If you don't know, you can check by doing the Start>Control Panel>System thing. It will show "Service Package 1" as the last entry in the "Windows Edition" which is the first sub heading at the top of the page. If there is no SP1, then the first thing to do is to install Service Package 1. Vista ran poorly before SP1 so it is imperative that you install it.

Do the following as it aplies to your condition:

A: Have you activated Windows? If you haven't then do so. You will find the activation code on a sticker, usually on the back of the computer but in any account, somewhere on the case. The activation Link is in the Start>Control Panel> System window at the bottom of the page. If you've done it, it will say: "Windows is Activated Product ID: XXXXXXXXXXXXXX" After activating (if it's not activated), UPDATE YOUR WINDOWS.

B: Same as above, except that the activation code is in the packaging. For the retail version it's on the tape you had to take off to open the case, on the OEM version, it's on a label in the package they say to put on the computer. (I never did lol).

C: Did you use the upgrade version (upgrading to Vista from a lower version of Windows) or did you do a re-format/Clean install.

D: Update your damn computer lol.

I would suggest installing SP2 and then seeing if there are any other updates. SP2 includes all the updates from the time SP1 was released up until the time SP2 came out.

Oh, I almost forgot. If your Office 2007 did not install, then why were you trying to install SP1 for it? Also, since you got the message that it is (Office SP1) already installed, are you seeing the Office in your add/remove programs?

Nope, as mentioned in my first post, I got this message:

Yeah, Instead of linking the page that I down loaded it from, I linked the actual file, sorry about that. I don't remember the page that I got that from.

A.Got it brand new on Christmas, but the admin was set by OfficeMax and don't have the rights to do ANYTHING on my computer, 'OfficeMax' does. I hate it SOOOO much and don't know how to gain admin rights.
B. No.
C. No.
D. I guess you can answer that based off of my answer on A.

C. I don't know.
D. How?
DeathStalker
I believed you when you said it wouldn't populate , I saw that after I had written that other stuff and just didn't delete it lol.

To Update: Click Start> All Programs> (right click and select run as administrator) Windows Update. In the left pane there is "check for updates" and below that is "change settings." It gives you four options:

Update automatically
Download Updates but let me choose how to install them
Check for updates but let me decide whether to download or install them
Never check for updates.

Place a check by one of the first three options. I use "Check for updates but let me decide whether to download or install them" (3rd option).

Make sure you put a check in both boxes below those options:

Include recommended updates............
Use Microsoft Update................

For now though, let's hook you up with SP2, it has all the upgrades for Vista x86 until like May 25th I think.

First download the System Update Readiness Tool. You should be able to hit run for this instead of save. If it gives you an message that you can't run it or don't need it, then don't worry, you are ok, you don't need it. I don't remember the exact message for that.

When it is finished, reboot your computer and then download and SAVE Vista SP2. Just hit the button that says download. It will take a while. If you look at that page, it says 1 hour 2 minutes for 786K DSL/Cable. When it first was released, some folks said it took them a couple of hours. I got it either the same day or the next and it took me 20 minutes and then 20 or 30 minutes to to install. Maybe 40, I forget lol and I did it on 4 computers so you would think I would remember. (You'd also think I would have been smart enough to download the ISO and burn it to disc.......) I do know that it took less time to run it rather than save it, but I suggest you save it in case there is any problem installing it, then you don't have to download it again. Note: This IS the x86 version that applies to your OS.

After it is downloaded, turn off all spyware detection programs and Anti virus stuff. If you use a third party firewall, turn it off too. Right click the file and select "run as administrator." If the program asks to reboot automatically as needed click yes. Stay by your computer as you will need to hit yes to all the stupid UAC messages and it also asks you a couple of questions. Internet Explorer 8 (IE8) is included in this update. Click yes for it as well. I think it is one of the last things to install. Be patient, and don't stop it once it starts. Now if it takes more than a couple of hours to install, (not download), then you probably have a problem lol.
After it is finished installing and rebooting, (I think it reboots more than once but don't remember), click Start>All programs> Update. In the left pane the top option is "Check for Updates." Click it and check for updates. Install all that are there. They will include Office 2007 updates if it detects Office 2007 on your computer. If they "fail" to install, don't worry about it, we'll get those once we get your Office 2007 working.

Sometimes, one update is dependent upon another, as such, when you finish, check again until it says: There are no new updates at this time or if there are only failed office updates.

Here are some well written tutorials on user accounts, how to turn off that annoying UAC, and how to gain full admin control of your computer.

First here is a list of the User Account Tutorials that are on that site. They have a ton of other tutorials about other Vista features and subjects, you can find them from this link.

Next, Rename the Admin Account. This is the built in "admin account" that you see in the user accounts list, but it isn't the "real" admin account.

How to enable or disable the REAL admin account in Vista. Be VERY careful with this one and heed all the warnings. You really should never have to use this one. I never have.

Turn the annoying UAC on or off. Just what it says lol. You may want to do this one before you start your updates. It makes life easier........... but you then have to be more careful about what you download and what sites you visit. We can deal with security later if you are interested in that.

Hope this helps. If you have any questions or problems, post back and let me know.
WhiteWood
Wow, The amount that you are helping me with is astonishing to me right now. Almost every problem I have in my life is connected to the UAC somehow, from me missing an appointment because my iPod can't sync to my calendar because I can't install outlook because I'm not an admin, down to not being able to fight virusus that attack specifically my DVD burner so that I can't get that client his DVD on time and lose his business forever. You are helping my life, not just my comp man, thanx! I'll be back to you AS SOON as I do all of that.

Whelp, this is what I got after trying to update my comp:

And this is what I got after trying to install SP2:

Clicking "Go Online To Learn More About This Issue" took me HERE

It sounds like you could be having a permissions issue in writing to the registry causing installation and uninstallation problems. As long as you are logged in as an administrator you can follow the instructions here and reset Vista's permissions to their defaults. The easiest method would be to run the "Fix It For Me" tool on that page. After it runs, reboot then see how things are working.

edit: Also, for the .NET issues you should have a look at this page for some troubleshooting tips, but only if the permissions fix doesn't correct the problem as I doubt this issue is isolated to the .NET Framework.

Thank You. I downloaded the 'fix it for me' and ran it, but this is what I got:

I tried to manually remove it by following these steps:
"1. Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then press ENTER.
2. In Windows Vista, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\inf\defltbase.inf /db defltbase.sdb /verbose"

And I got this:

This is how the computer has been towards EVERYTHING since I got it. I almost want to sue Microsoft.

EDIT:
I decided to scan my comp for viruses using three virus scanners simultaneously and this popped up out of nowhere. No idea what it means, but the first reference to .NET that I've ever seen on my comp:

DeathStalker
It is best to follow a single path towards resolution rather than jumping around from here to there. Let's try to solve this sequentially, one problem at a time.

My best guess from the beginning is that you ARE infected with one or more types of malware. I am working on learning to remove malware, but I am nowhere near qualified to do so yet. However you ARE on one of the top malware removal sites in the world (that is no exaggeration). I am going to send you over to the malware removal section, but not just quite yet. One of the first steps in Malware removal is getting your Windows updated. Sometimes that is not possible, but what we are doing here is exhausting all the possibilities of updating first so you can get malware free.

Back to your second to last post. You tried to install SP1 and got the error. You followed the link to possible resolutions. If you followed my instructions lol, we did 3 of the 4 steps.

Step 1: Use the stand alone Sp1 version.
The link to Sp1 I gave you was the stand alone version, KB 948465

Step2: Run the System readiness tool:
You were supposed to do that before you downloaded the SP1.

Step3: Turn off all applications:
This is a maybe with a high possibility of yes lol. Usually no applications other than AAV, FW, and other malware protection programs are running, and you were supposed to turn those off.

Step4: Remove security applications, reboot, try again.
Sort of a harsh method, if an application is preventing Windows from updating even if it is shut off, the same "hidden" parts that are running will be hard to remove anyway.

So basically that was no help. I would have rathered you had waited to try resetting the permissions to default, but one good thing came of it, your error message lol. If you disabled the UAC, what you did with the commands you tried next would have re enabled it. Anyway, what I want to try nex, based on your error message is to reset your windows update agent and re install the latest update component:

Go Here and follow the instuctions. It is quite complex for many people, but I don't think you will have any problems. Try the Default method before you try the aggressive method. (Try to install the SP1 after doing the Default. Keep track of any new error messages if any pop up, but if it fails, move on to the aggressive method). The last step of the aggressive method is to download the latest Windows Update agent. Don't use the microsoftUpdate.com thing as we already know that won't work lol. Step 11 of the aggressive method will link you to 949104 which is a stand alone version. Click it.

NEVER run anti virus scans at the same time lol. Do them one at a time if you want, but wait until one finishes before another one starts. Now Please tell me WHICH ant virus/anti malware programs you are using and if you have EVER updated them. If any are paid subscriptions, tell me which ones please.

Gotta clean the house and make supper, but I'lll be back in a couple of hours. If you have the time, I can work on this with you for most of the night. I'm on EST (US) time. WHat time zone are you in? As you can see from the time stamps last night, I was up until after 4 AM my time, I don't sleep much lol.

Okay, I reset Windows Update components SUCCESSFULLY under the default method.
But are you SURE about what you said (I made it bold in the quote) about Installing SPONE? You sure you didn't mean TWO? Because I searched this entire thread and you didn't link me to SP1, only 2.

WHOOPS, Brainfart. Good catch. I meant SP2. Sorry. but if you haven't tried to install SP2 yet hold off. I want you to do something else first. I got in a hurry last post and left it off. Although you SHOULD have it, i want you to download and install the Microsoft Installer version 4.5. Make sure you exit Spybot, MBAM (Malawarebytes Anti Malware), and SAS (Super Anti Spyware) before you install it. If it gives you the message something like "This file already exists continue anyways?" click yes. if it says something like "replace all or copy all files" also click yes. After you finish, reboot your computer and THEN try to install SP2 again. (Again, make sure your Spybot, MBAM, and SAS are turned off).

Microsoft Installer 4.5

Look in the "Files in this Download" section. The one you want is Windows 6.0-KB942288-v2-x86.MSU and is the fourth one down.

Good. That message means you already have the 4.5 installer installed. I needed to know that before we TRY to deal with the 80072EFD error you got when you tried to use Microsoft Update. To try to fix that one you need to go here.

I do not think the steps there will work, but it has to be tried lol. I have seen this error before on a friends computer and have been unable to get it resolve. NO ONE I have talked to on many computer sites has been able to get it resolved, as a matter of fact lol, that is how I ended up here. Bleeping Computer , Vista Forums, and Computer-Juice.

After we try the above steps, there is one more thing that we can try, but I want to do the others first. Do you by chance use the Microsoft messenger or Microsoft live? Do you use Limewire or some other P2P program?

This basically only tells me to cut my Windows firewall on and all others off. Windows firewall is on. The other Firewall programs I have don't work until you open them. They're only scanners.
It also asks me to make sure my internet connection is fine. It is.

It also shows you how to make sure that the update sites are not in the host file (which blocks them), makes sure the proxy settings are correct, that the update sites are in the trusted zone and ensures that the BITS is running correctly.

There is always this option.

I want you to follow the steps in the link I provided last post if you have not. You never indicated that you followed all the steps. Did you:

1. Turn off your firewall, try update.
2. Turn off any software accelerator programs, try update. (you probably don't have any so that may be moot)
3. Method E: add the update sites to the trusted list
4. Method F: Make sure you have the latest Bit Intelligence Transfer Service installed (use this link instead of the one in the KB linked above. try to update
5. Advanced Method A, try to update.

I know you have internet connectivity, but unless you did something to specifically prevent it, Spybot and SAS for sure, and probably MBRAM all start when you boot your computer and need to be turned off as well as your firewall when doing these steps.

None of those programs startup with my comp.

1. Update= Windows Update. Start> All Programs > Windows Update. When the window opens, click "Check for updates" in the left hand pane.

2. Software accelerators are programs that "speed up" downloads and such. I can't imagine you have any if you don't know what they are. LOL I didn't have any and had to look it up when I first saw it too.

3. LOL As I suspected you didn't read the whole page I linked. It tells you what the trusted list is and how to get there:

Method E: Add the Windows Update Web site and the Microsoft Update Web site to the Trusted Sites list
Note If your third-party firewall is still disabled from Method B, do not open e-mail messages, surf the Web, or use instant messenger at this point.

To add the Windows Update Web site and the Microsoft Update Web site to the Trusted Sites list, follow these steps:

1. Start Windows Internet Explorer.
2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.

Note If you are using Internet Explorer 7, and the menu is not available, press the ALT key on your keyboard to access the Internet Explorer Menu.
3. Click the Security tab, and then click Trusted Sites.
4. Click Sites, and then click to clear the Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone check box.
5. In the Add this Web site to the zone box, type the following addresses, and then click Add after you type each address:
* # 64.4.21.125 http://update.microsoft.com
* # 64.4.21.125 http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
6. Click OK two times.
7. Try to install the updates again.

If this method resolved your issue and you were able to install updates successfully, you should re-enable your third-party firewall if it is still disabled. To do this, see step 2 in Method B.

If this method did not resolve your issue, continue with Method F.

4. Try this Hit continue and follow the instructions.

5. See number 1 for the explination of update. Did you run the Advanced method A which is:

Advanced Method A: Remove entries for Windows Update and Microsoft Update from the hosts file
Some programs may modify the hosts file to control DNS name resolution. Sometimes, an entry for the Windows Update Web site or for the Microsoft Update Web site may exist in the hosts file.

To remove entries from the hosts file, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. Copy and then paste (or type) the following command in the Run box, and then press ENTER:
notepad %windir%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
Note If you are prompted to select a program to open the hosts file, click Notepad, click to select the Always use the selected program option, and then click OK.
3. In Notepad, remove or remark any lines in the hosts file that contain entries for Windows Update so that they are not read when the file is accessed. To do this, put the number sign (#) in front of any line that contains "microsoft" and "update." For example, add the number sign (#) to the beginning of the following entries:
* # 64.4.21.125 http://update.microsoft.com
* # 64.4.21.125 http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
* # http://update.microsoft.com
4. On the File menu, click Save.
5. Exit Notepad.
6. Restart the computer.

Note from me, Microsoft part over: This list is long. It contains the blacklisted sites from Spybot.

6. OK.

EDIT NOTE: The update links are not supposed to be links. This site keeps making them links, I edit them and unlink them and the site then relinks them. This site wins.

1. I got this error:

3. I use FireFox.

4. I successfully installed THIS

5. If anything was supposed to show in NotePad, it didn't, it was empty.

3. You can run Firefox all you want, but if you want to download updates for Microsoft, you will have to use Internet Explorer to do so. They will not allow anything else to operate on the update site. When you use Windows Update it connects to the internet it uses IE. You don't get a choice, it just does it. BTW, I use firefox as well, IE sucks lol. But that leads me to wonder. Do you even HAVE Internet Explorer on your computer? If not, that might be the problem.

Download and install IE8. Open IE8. Don't bother to configure anything if you aren't going to use it (I never did), just type update.microsoft.com in the address bar and hit enter. It will take you to the update site and your update window SHOULD open up at that point. hit "check for updates." If it actually DOES check for updates and shows you a list of updates to install then pick one, any one and see if it will install. If it does, then go ahead, close the window, ignore the stuff below here and let me know. If you get the same "Some updates did not install" message then continue on with the stuff below. If you get a different error message let me know as well.

4. Ok, so after you installed the plug in did you hit continue? It was at the bottom of the page. If you didn't the Go back here. The "continue" will now be at the top. Hit it. On the next screen you will see Download. Hit it. It will ask you to save to disc or run. Just hit run. If it says you don't need the update then peachy keen. Hit close and let me know. If it DOES need the download, follow the instructions until it is finished, close it, reboot and try update again. Let me know what happens.

5.If there was nothing on the notepad, then the update sites weren't on the hosts list. The Spybot sites that should have been there probably aren't because you probably never ran immunization. Not a problem, we can take care of that later if you want (it is suggested for security.

f. Click OK two times.
g. Try to install the updates again.

Yes, I do have IE. Okay, I clicked to clear the Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone check box.
But can you quote what I have to enter into the 'Add this Web site to the zone box'? Do I have to enter the '* # 64.4.21.125' also?
I entered both only starting after the 'http'. And I ran Windows Update and got this:

1. No. I tried to edit that part out, but it kept coming back. You did well by not including that. I figured you would get that same error message, but I was hoping..........

2. Good, that means you already had the latest version on your computer. There is a way to tell without trying to run the program but it is difficult to explain and would have taken much longer. That way was faster and easier.

Getting back to the original problem of Office 2007 not installing (yeah I remember that lol), I want you to try this.

This deals both with fixing an error message you did not receive OR an empty Windows features dialog box which you DO have. When you have finished, open the Turn Windows features on or off box and see if it will now populate. (Start> Control Panel> Programs and features).
If it does, then just for grins try Update again ( I doubt it will update but what the heck we may get lucky). If you try update and it actually works, then update and we'll go back to the office 2007 problem. If it populates the Windows Features dialog box but does not update, we will go back to the Office 2007 problem. (in both those instances, we will be able to see the status of .Net). If the link above does not populate the Windows feature box then we will........... you guessed it, get back to the Office 2007 problem, but from a different direction.

I tried it all, nothing but this:

Yeah, I didn't think the System Restore would work as you had tried it before. Do you even have any restore points on your computer?

Anyway, here is how you should try to remove Office from your computer. I know it didn't install but there are likely some remnants still there. This may be be a little late to ask, but are you sure you tried to install Office and not an update? The original error message in your first post mentioned "rolling back changes" andthere would BE no changes to roll back if it weren't trying to install a service pack or something. Also the last error message in your first post was for a service pack for Office...........

Man, whenever I try to uninstall ANYTHING from this list, this error ALWAYS pops up. And it's obviously and blatantly lying to me:

And after I say that I want it removed from the list, it NEVER removes. This has been a problem of mine for a LONG time.

So I had to use Step 1, Took a long time to remove all the individual programs in Office like Excel and Word, but the only thing that's left is
Microsoft Office Home And Studio 2007, it will NOT remove.

So I moved on to Step 2. The Office Source Engine was not running

So I moved on to Step 3. They told me to remove two folders from
Office12 & Source Engine
Office12 won't delete, not even with Unlocker. But Source Engine deleted.

It then said:
'Open the drive_letter:\MSOCache\All Users folder, and then delete every folder that has the following text in the folder name:
0FF1CE)-'
I couldn't find anything that said '0FF1CE)- on it, so I removed all folders named MSOCache

Step 4. Told me to delete:
* Normal.dotm
* Normalemail.dotm
I did. It then said to open:
%appdata%\microsoft\document building blocks\Language ID
But it doesn't exist on my comp, and it says:
If you cannot open this folder because the folder does not exist, go to step 6.

So I moved on to step 6
Restart the comp. Which I am about to do RIGHT NOW.

btw, I turned my FireWall back on....

EDIT: Restarted my comp, same thing. It's still on there and won't uninstall

Try nukin it with Revo Uninstaller. It's free, so click the download button (Right at the top, next to the world with the green arrow.)

Try it in Hunter mode.

Here is a link to the user guide.

EDIT: One more thing. I'm confused. Your first post says you were trying to install Enterprise, the two error messages in the first post pertained to 2007 SP1, and the window you pasted above says Home/Student? WTF over? Did your computer come with a trial version Home/Studentand you were trying to upgrade it to Enterprise? Or did it come with a trial version of Home/Student, and you tried to just Install Enterprise, (full version) without un installing Home Student? Or none of the above..........

I had 2007 Student on my comp when I got it apparently, but only like half of the Office Programs, no Outlook. So in trying to get Outlook, I found that the last and most equipt version is Enterprise. I don't know if it's trying to upgrade or install... I just know it won't work.

Working on uninstalling Office now.

EDIT: Uninstalled!

EDIT2: Installing Enterprise 2007

EDIT3: It failed again sad.gif

EDIT4: Text Messages would make this process go by 100x quicker. Because I HONESTLY refresh this page AT LEAST once every ten minutes, ALL DAY, waiting on a response. Nothing against your help, only against my impatience with this computer.
DeathStalker
EDIT3: It failed again:

Same error as the first time? If so something is wrong with your installation disc. Where did you get it? Did you buy it new from a store or computer website, or get it from someone? Is it an original disc or a burned disc? From the first error message on your first post, I swear it looks like it is SP1 for Office or an upgrade version.

EDIT:According to the MS Office website, the Enterprise version is available only through volume license, not retail. Make sure that whoever gave it to you gave you the correct disc, it looks like they gave you the wrong one.

Same exact Error Message:

And the Microsoft Office 2007 Enterprise version that I have is good.

Damn, I thought I posted this, sorry.

First run the Revo on your failed Office installation, then make sure your WIndows Update is set to automatic.

The only thing I can think of trying on the Office is to tweak the .Net as that is what the error message you keep getting for the Office refers to. First download and install .Net Framework 3.5.

Reboot and then download and install .Net Framework 3.5 SP1.

Keny: Thanks for the link. I'll have a thread up on the 80072 EFD error shortly. Wonder what responses I get...........

Try reinstalling Windows Installer. This installer applies to Windows Vista Service Pack 1.

By the way, I've been watching this thread. This is the only thing I can come up with so far to help, so I apologize ahead of time if this does not work.

We did that on Friday MadDawg, he got the message "This update does not apply" or something like that, (he posted it on page 2) which means it was already on there.

Click here and let's see what happens........... EDIT: Don't download anything if you get there, I just want to see if you are blocked from getting to that site.

I think it's time for you to get checked for malware. Do this and let them take it from there. When they are finished and say you are clean, let's try some of this stuff again.
MadDawg
Oh sorry, I guess I should have skimmed a little bit slower.

No problem man, I wasn't trying to be smart, I was acknowledging your help. LOL I get a bit confused sometimes on what we have tried. I had to go back and re read to make sure we had done that.
WhiteWood
You guys are awesome!

Okay, so you had me uninstall my Microsoft Word and Excel, two programs that I used everyday. It's been 2, 3 days and I REALLY need it now.
Am I REALLY the ONLY person with this problem??
DeathStalker
So did you follow the steps in my last post? i have seen no indication that you have. Did you click the link to see if you could get to that website? Did you click the other link, follow the instructions and post that mock HJT log in the malware section of the forums or barring that have you had an UNITE or ASAP certified pro verify that your computer is clean?

I spent a good portion of the late night (IE morning I guess lol) at that MicroSoft forum that Keny 1(x6) recommended, and on one thread got the following reply from MowGreen MVP Data Center Management - Update Services Consumer Security: For the purportedly infected system, you can get no-charge assistance from MS for the installation issue of SP2 or, contact MS for no-charge assistance in getting the system cleaned up.

For the former, start here, (which is the link I think I gave you before for MS suppor).

For Vista SP2 they are offering FREE email, chat and phone support. On the link here it takes you to a select region screen, click US (duh lol). The next screen is the products screen, click Vista SP2 and continue. Now you should be at select a topic: choose update and continue. There you have the three support options. I suggest this BECAUSE: If you get on phone support, you will get Vekentarrah in Delhi. He will ask you if he can use remote assistance. You say yes. He tlls you what to do on your computer to get that going, then he takes control of your computer and gets SP2 installed. Once he starts, he doesn't stop until it is done. No waiting for a new post or anything like that. He doesn't have to search the web for answers, he's got them right there in his little book written in Hindi so he can read it as he goes. I didn't realize that they were offering free phone support for SP2 or I would have suggested it when you first had an SP2 installation problem.

The benefits: Remember WHY I tried to get SP2 installed. It contains updates and fixes to Vista that you don't have. It should also fix any .NET problems which is what is preventing us from getting the Office installed. Once last thing: Can you please find out what kind of Office installation disc you have, install or upgrade? I'm betting Install as there would be few uses for an Enterprise upgrade, but one never knows...........
