HELP!

I just ordered from NewEgg the Sony DVD_/-RW 16X DW-D26A. I don't know what I'm doing and had called customer service and they didn't know anything about this either.

My Maxtor CD drive doesn't work anymore and so I wanted to buy a new cd burner and also wanted the capability of burning slideshows and eventually DVD (I don't know anything about burning DVD's). I don't know if I bought the right thing or not. It just shipped and will receive tomorrow!

Hi PattyL,

Well I don't know much about it either, but Sony has a good name in CD and DVD burners. The DW-D26A is a dual-layer burner so that means you can get up to 4.7GB on one DVDROM disk, compare to 670MB on one CD-R disk. (1GB=1000MB approx).

The DVD burner will fit in exactly the same slot as the CDROM drive and will attach to the same cables, you need to make sure you set the same jumper type on the new drive as the old one. The jumpers are next to the power connector on the drive, often there is a guide stamped in the case metal above the connectors. If your old drive was set up SL (or CS or MA) then set up the new drive to be SL (etc.). Then install the software that came with the new drive. All you need is some blank media and then your ready to burn!

Let us know how you go.

Sony has some of the best CD/DVD -R -RW on the market. You made a good choice. And as Rimmer said, just make sure you have the jumpers set exactly like the old drive then you'll be golden. Enjoy!

Hi,

Thanks for your response. Got the DVD/CD drive yesterday and hope to have hubby install this weekend. Looking forward to using it. Love your graphics on your replay - that is awesome.
