Full Version: hooking desktop to laptop

Hello all! Does anyone have some input on how to hook my emachine desktop computer to my Dell laptop to access internet through desktop TO laptop?? (inexpensively?)

I am fairly new to this computer world so please if there is any input make it easy to understand. (layman terms)

well, a bit more info would help, but for starters, if you have a hbigh speed internet account, you can inexpensively purchase a router. anywhere from $40 and up. cheapest is not the best in this case. from there you simply make the connections as directed from the router instructiuons, then configure the internet as per isp. (Internet Service Provider) . if you have dial up, i don't recommend Internet sharing through your computers without a router or a switch.any more questions about this, reply a post thumbup.gif

You need to tell us what operating system runs on the two PCs and what type of internet connection you have - dial up, broadband, DSL, cable? How is your desktop connected to the modem/router? USB or Ethernet or something else? Does the laptop have an ethernet port (LAN port)?

There are several ways of doing what you want to do but it depends on your equipment.
