A guy i know is building me a computer.....would like some feedback on if it is a deal like he says,or if im being had atall

He quoted me $1400 canadian

Not sure what the exchange is right now, but that certainly doesn't sound bad. You've got a lot of equipment there - with the two drives and the MCE and the nForce motherboard, I think it sounds like a pretty good deal.

Well going by the prices at NCIX it would seem to be a reasonable price. If you're comfortable putting things like this together you might be able to save some $$$ if you shopped around but I got to $1000 worth of stuff without including everything in your list and that was without taxes etc. Hopefully he will give you a bit of service afterwards if you need it too which is also worth something.

You've got two SATA hard drives and a really hi-end video card with a pretty decent DVD drive so I think you are doing all right. That AMD Athlon 64bit 3000+ processor is current technology too. Are you geting a CD with the Microsoft MCE 2005 on it? I'd buy it.

I built a similar computer last summer (High end gaming computer), but not with as much stuff as you're getting. It ran me about $1300 american, so (not knowing the exchange rate) I'd say you're getting a good deal, too.

$1300 USD is $1598 CDN right now, so it seems like the price is right.



So if I go back to school can I then afford a machine like that?

Sounds good but...

If the guy who is building you a computer would upgrade the 80GB hard drive to 120GB to match and install a RAID 0,1 system. I think that would be the icing!

Sorry to throw a wrench into it but I always try to match my drives.

My next gamer/business/personal computer will have dual 200GB drives RAID 0,1.

Why? Speed, my friend, speed!! I have a need, a need for speed!
