Hi guys new to the forums here. I have been having a problem for a few weeks now. Windows is freezing on me often. It can happen when i am viewing a website or simply when my computer is idle and the screen saver is on. it also freezes when i try to minimize or close a window. The screen locks up at first but i still can move my mouse around. I can bring up the task menu by pressing ctrl alt del but i cant execute any tasks when the menu is up. If i continue to click the screen my mouse locks up and the PC starts to beep at me. Alls i have done so far to try and correct this is run spyware and virus scans and registry Mechanic but no luck. Any help would be great here this is really bothering me sad.gif

Have a look in the Event Viewer for any errors at the time of the freezes.

To open the Event Viewer go to Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer. Alternately, go to Start > Run and type in "eventvwr.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter.

Check in all the categories.

If you find an error that occurred at the time right-click on it and select properties. Copy the information in the window and post it back here. This will help us diagnose your problem.

How To Use the Event Viewer

This error happened and then my Pc crashed it seems to be a firefox related issue. But it happens when firefox is not open as well.

Right click on the C drive in Explorer and go Properties > Tools > Check Now (under Error Checking). Check both boxes then click "Start Now". A message will pop up saying that Error Checking will run after you restart the computer. Restart the computer and Error Checking will run automatically after the restart. After it’s finished it will restart into Windows automatically.

Budapest Thanks for all the help I ran that check disk and my Pc seems to be running much smoother. It hasn't froze up yet, I will continue to keep a eye on it. Again thanks very much smile.gif

Well i Thought i was in the clear buy no sad.gif. My Pc froze up on me a few more times last night after i posted that message. I did a hijackthis scan here are the results. It seems to be Firefox related it happens most of the time when I am using firefox online but it can happen just in windows as well. Could this be a spyware or registry issue?

I have moved your Topic that includes a HijackThis log here to the Misplaced HJT Logs forum. You posted your log in a forum not intended for HijackThis logs analysis and probably missed the directions we provide to those who require assistance. We can only allow topics with such logs in the HijackThis Logs and Malware Removal forum. This restriction is to ensure you get the best help available, from those who specialize in malware anlaysis and removal. It also should prevent you from receiving ineffective or even potentially dangerous advice, whether well meaning or not.

Prior to posting a log, we ask that you please read and follow all instructions in the pinned topic titled Preparation Guide For Use Before Posting A Hijackthis Log. Following the steps in this Guide will allow the HJT Team to quickly help you with specific fixes for what may remain on your system.

Please complete all the steps in the Guide. If you can't perform a step, then skip it and continue with the next. In Step 6 there are instructions for downloading and running DDS which will create a Psuedo HJT Report as part of its log.

When you have completed those steps, start a new topic in the HijackThis Logs and Malware Removal forum as directed in the Prep Guide to post a new log.

Please DO NOT post any more logs to this topic, or post a log again in the wrong forum.

The Misplaced HJT Logs forum is strictly a holding area where the BC Staff can assist you with preparations for and to properly post your log. If you have a question or encounter a problem in the Prep Guide, please do post back to this topic; that is what it is here for.

When your new DDS/HJT log is posted in the proper forum, please reply to this topic with a link to your new topic. Once that is done, a Member of the HJT Team will analyze your log and assist you with step by step instructions to clean your computer or otherwise advise what needs to be done.

Thanks for your cooperation and good luck.
The BC Staff

If you wish for this thread to be moved back to the Am I Infected forum, just let me know - I can remove the HJT log and you can continue with Budapest
