I seem to be having a problem with Spybot's teatimer. Whenever an alert dialog box pops up, it is somehow not complete.

I'm guessing that I will need to do a complete re-install.
I have just recently installed the latest version: Spybot S&D 1.4
This did not occur with the previous version.
My O.S. is Win. ME
Browser is IE 6.0
Pandy
I am having the same problem Scarlett. Are you using Windows blinds or something? Have you tried to unload it? I use wondowsblinds too. I was thinking about doing a new install myself. I get the exact same look. When I first installed the new version I chose to install teatimer at the same time. Thinking maybe I shouldn't have. Maybe I should have reinstalled teatimer separately.
tg1911
That's what I'd try first scarlett, an uninstall, then reinstall of Spybot.

As Pandy suggested, try installing the basic, then add Teatimer and SDHelper after the install.
That's the way I do it.

I've also read of some having troubles with Spybot if they did the updates during the install.
Try waiting till after the install is complete, before updating.
Scarlett
Thanks for the advice. smile.gif What a pain!!!
And no Pandy, I do not have Win. Blinds.
Scarlett
censored2.gif I should of turned off tea timer first before un-install!! The &^%%#%$ corrupt alert dialog box keeps popping up. As it is, I can not click on it!

Help! What do I do now??
Edit: I wonder if I removed all files and folders, maybe even all reg entries.
(although I do not really want to do that) Would that help?
Pandy
I did my updates after the install.. I had read that was a problem.
Pandy
I don't know Scarlett.. you uninstalled Spybot and it is still running the teatimer?? Maybe a reboot will stop it?
Scarlett
Yes I un-installed spybot through add/remove. And yes tea-timer is still running. I click to close the alert and another one pops up, then another, etc. There seems to be no end to them. Since the buttons do not work or are even visible, on the alert dialog box. It is impossible to perform any action on it.
Scarlett
I guess for now, I will do a re-boot.
Maybe I should consider removing it from startup's.
That brings up an alert as well, though. Shrug
Pandy
I would have gotten scared about that and just shut the puter down. LOL Like unplugged it. I hope you get it fixed, you will. smile.gif
Scarlett
OK a re-boot got rid of the alert popup(s).
Before re-boot, I also removed tea-timer from my startups.
I am now considering, removing all files and folders, through search.
In hopes of having a complete, clean re-install.
Which will only be a basic in-stall:
Tea-Timer, SD-helper and any and all updates will be added later.
Scarlett
So far so good (I think. Lol)

Removed Tea-Timer from startups

Removed all files and folders

Re-boot ( In order to end the still running Tea-Timer) pop-ups, after the un-install.

Did a basic install.

Activated Tea-Timer and S&D Helper after.

D/L updates after also.
Scarlett
mad.gif Well I just received an alert dialog this morning, and it is stilled screwed up. I'm starting to think that the d/l is corrupt.

It still looks like this.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Help! wacko.gif
Pandy
I wish I knew Scarlett. I can't get rid of the weather bug because I can't click what I need when the alert comes up. I found this at the Spybot forum at Net-Integration. Try it and see if it works next time it comes up Scarlett.

http://forums.net-integration.net/index.ph...ndpost&p=150114

Let us know how it goes. smile.gif

EDIT~

Scarlett. I tried the solution that was suggested in the thread I linked you to above. It worked. What I did was use HjT to remove the weatherbug.exe. As soon as I did the Spybot dialogue box came up. I pushed the A button and it finally allowed the change. LOL WooHoo! I will still be able to use the Teatimer now while I am waiting for the fix for this glitch. w00t.gif

My solution. With credit going to igonuts2 and Leurgy. smile.gif

I did a complete uninstall of Spybot 1.4

First and importantly I de-activated Tea - Timer and S & D Helper.
Un-installed Spybot 1.4 via Add/Remove
Removed Tea-Timer from startups

Removed all files and folders

Then I went back and installed the previous version. whistling.gif
Spybot 1.3

I imagine if you wait a little while they will have the bugs out of 1.4. If they don't already.
Pandy
I decided to wait for the fix needed for it. I am manging ok with the a and d buttons. They weren't working but now they are so I am doing fine that way.
Scarlett
I have decided to install 1.4

Although, I do not as of yet have TeaTimer running.

This issue puts us all in between a rock and a hard place. Do we wait for the updated version (as mentioned in bold , in the quote below.) And do without the latest definitions.
Or do we go ahead and install the version of 1.4 that is out now. And deal with the "bug" of the registery dialog, by using the A & the D keys for allow and deny.

Then when ever the updated version is released, we will need to do yet another
un-install and install.

I still am a supporter of Spybot. As it is a wonderfull program. This is all a shame. But we will all have to have a little patience. The great folks at Safer-Networking will get this all straightened soon enough. smile.gif I'm sure.

According to the Spybot news at safer-networking.org, the problem with the bug, is still not resolved.

Small bugs in TeaTimer    22. June 2005
Many of those who're using our new version 1.4 have already noticed an obvious bug: on the Registry Warning dialog, the buttons are misplaced and partly hidden by the checkbox text. But while every software has some bugs, this is one that shouldn't have been necessary. It comes from a bug in our development environment - Borland Delphi - that automatically rearranges graphical items on the user interface every time one works on the project, which basically means about half an our of work correcting everything each morning before the actual work can begin. And sometimes, like in this case, the errors created by Delphi even sneak into final releases. We will release an updated version as soon as we've fully tested some workarounds.

The long version for people interested in software development:

It's not that Borland would not know of this bug - we regularly report the bugs we found into their Quality Central. But even bugs I reported 18 months ago are still open in their Quality Central, and Borland has released 2 newer versions, and 3 updates for the latest version alone, without fixing most of the problems. And when I was on the phone to Borland, asking for someone who could give me a statement about these bugs, they said it was not enough that I bought the Enterprise edition of their development environment - if I wanted to talk to someone about bugs in the software, I would have to buy premium support first, totally ignoring the implied warranty. Since we wanted to provide our users with an explanation for the bugs that make a new main release necessary more or less directly after releasing 1.4, I asked them for a public statement about some of their bugs that are visible in 1.4. They did hesitantly provide some workarounds, stating that customers paying extra for support would receive corrections (keep in mind the implied warranty that law grants) sooner, but couldn't provide an explanation in the past weeks.

All the while in the past months, I've received multiple mails from Borland asking me for success stories in ten years of using Delphi or the migration from VCL to .NET. Sadly, they never answered me when I sent them misery stories of using Borland Delphi so far. Since People ask from time to time if we actually develop in Delphi, I've decided to post this, as a counterpost to Borlands success stories (while we still believe in the power of ObjectPascal, we've lost our faith in Delphi for future projects), and as a migration story from Borland Delphi to FreePascal and Lazarus, which will probably be the base for future Spybot-S&D versions.

You don't need to do without the latest definitions. You can still update version 1.3. You will have to do without the latest version, which I don't think is a major problem in a properly protected computer.

Thank you Scarlett,
I think I will try your fix. It is explained very well (step by step). It makes it a lot easier for me I have MS and my cognitive skills have deteriorated considerably. So this really helps me. Appreciate it. smile.gif
I was just wondering if I hadn't got afraid and post my concerns here...would it have caused any damage....is it just a nuisance until all the gulches are worked out?

Thanks all for the help thumbup.gif

Thanks Leurgy, I thought that one must have the latest version, in order to have the latest definitions.

Your welcome. smile.gif Keep in mind that after the install is complete, and you then activate the TeaTimer. While the alert dialog box is still buggy.
You can hit the A to allow
And the D key to deny
Scarlett
Good news!

Team Spybot has been able to locate and fix the bug in version 1.4
The "bug" which affected the GUI of the registery change dialog box.

This fix will be included in the next upgrade.

Which they hope will be available soon.

For now this is the workaround as quoted from: spybotsandra - Member of Team Spybot

As a current solution you can work with your keyboard. Use the cursor keys to switch between the buttons ("Allow" is on the left, "Deny" on the right) and the space key to enter your selection. You can also press "A" on your keyboard for "Allow change" or "D" for "Deny change". The Checkbox for "Remember this decision" will work correctly in spite of the graphical issue. If you don't like to use the above workarounds you can disable TeaTimer as follows:
- Go into Spybot > Mode > Advanced Mode > Tools > Resident.
- Uncheck the following: Resident "TeaTimer" (Protection of over-all system settings) Active.

It's about time!!!!
Thanks for the update, Scarlett.

LOL Your welcome tg. smile.gif We all have been anxiously awaiting this news.

I'll try to continue to keep an eye on this. wink.gif

Still waiting.....

In the meantime there are a couple of unofficial fixes posted at Safer Networking Forums.
As these fixes/patches are a bit involved, they may not be the answer for everyone.

Safer Networking Forums - Solution to fix the pop-ups in TeaTimer

Hi Scarlett,

Thank you for posting the link to fix the registry decision box in SpyBot S&D. Even though I’m a novice when it comes to computers, I was able to follow ElPiedra’s directions and had the bug fixed in less than 3 minutes. thumbup.gif

Most Appreciative Paws,
Rose
Scarlett
You are so welcome Rose. smile.gif

Happy to have helped.
steveke
Just wanted to point out that the unofficial fixes can cause a conflict with Zone Alarm. See, "Resident Teatimer and Zone Alarm Conflict"

http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t...ight=zone+alarm

The ElPiedra fix uses ResHack and this automatically creates a backup of the original (as Teatimer_original) in the Spybot file folder, in case you need to revert back.

The other fixes may also create a backup-but I only know of this one as this was the fix I used.
Scarlett
Thanks for that info. steveke

As I stated this fix may not be for all.
No one should apply it if they are a novice to computing.
Cetus35
Well, despite the warnings here that the ResHack fix is not for everyone (which I guess is technically true), I have used it twice now and quickly and easily fixed the little "malformed Alert Dialog box" problem in Spybot Search & Destroy v1.4.
I noticed most people here were happy to revert to a previous version of Spybot, which I was also about to do, when I came across the "ResHacker fix".
It's quick, easy, simple.
Anyone who can't follow the simple directions given on the page whose link is below, well, I don't know.
You shut down TeaTimer, (directions given) then open ResHacker, click on File then Open , navigate to TeaTimer.exe (directions given) search for a very easy to find line of code, change it from "160" to "190" and that's pretty much it!
I mean, they're extremely easy-to-follow instructions.
So, with all due respect to the cautious advisors here, I say go to this link and fix the stupid thing yourself. It's not rocket science.
(And to heck with waiting for someone to put out a fix for the bug.)
Have fun,
Hugh

After spending hours trying all the suggestions above, unsuccessfully, and actually getting worse, I finally get to see the ALLOW and DENY buttons by installing the small fix available here: http://forums.spybot.info/showthread.php?t=122. It is in POST 9.

I had to register with the site and track down the Teatimer.exe file in my program files but the effort was worth it.

Cheers
