Hello
I am using FireFox and have noticed lately that when I type in a search word or phrase in the Google bar and then hit the Enter key nothing happens. I need to use the mouse and click on search. This only happens with certain phrases or words. Anyone experience this??
Thanks in advance

I just typed
panasonic verses sony digital cameras and it is not working by hitting the "Enter" key. If clicking on search it will say "Did you mean" panasonic VERSUS sony digital cameras. However at times with words spelled correctly it still may not work. I thought it was a spell check thing but it's not

You are suggesting un-install FF completely and then reinstall??

Hmmm works fine for me + i get the correct spelling response.
Try uninstalling and then reinstalling the latest release of firefox.
Do you know when it started to happen, had you installed anything around that time?

It happened before the latest version of FF. Don't know just how long before that however

I was going to suggest to try an earlier version of firefox but it'll be a bit hiss or miss trying to do that.
Try removing everything related to firefox and reinstall, this should clear up and corrupt data etc

I just un installed FF and reinstalled with no change. Should I uninstall and select clear data, etc.? I can get this back through a FEBE backup correct??

Yes remove everything to do with firefox and start fresh.
It could also be an extension cause the problem.....you could try disabling them all and see what happens, if it's ok then try enabling each extension one at a time until something triggers it.

Hello again Emu
I did try disabling the extensions with no luck. I then uninstalled FF including my profile. Installed fresh FF and then restored my FEBE data. I found out everyone should really have a second profile to make FEBE somewhat easy to restore if needed. So that is what I did.
Everything seems to be working correctly now so hopefully that was it
Thank you so much for your help
Ps. is there an easy way to put a FF profile switcher in my startup folder (i think I had one at one time)

I'm honestly have no idea, try copying the .exe file into the start-up folder.....?

Must be. Create a new profile and see from there.

Corruption this deep in Firefox may require deleting the Mozilla and Firefox folders in order to get a truly "clean" install.
Use this link to remove all traces (backup your bookmarks first!):

Hello again John
I will give this a go tomorrow. I'm glad I have FEBE otherwise I would be lost
I'm thinking it may have started when I deleted the Beta Firefox app. but not sure. In any event I will do a clean install tomorrow and take it from there

I prefer the Foxmarks extension - it stores your bookmarks on their server so you can sync with any system that you use Firefox/Foxmarks on.
Also, you can access your bookmarks from anywhere by going to

Well unfortunately all that deleting and creating a new FF folder didn't do anything. I wiped everything out like you suggested, rebooted and installed FF. Once I put my profile backup into it the same problem happened. I went and disabled ALL my extensions but that didn't help either. I even made a second profile and renamed it but once I put my info into the mix the same problem with searching using the enter key. Anything else to disable? Bookmarks?
Maybe when I install Win 7 later this year it will be resolved
I went and removed the second profile I created because I didn't know if having a mirrored profile would mess things up
Thank you anyway

From your last post it appears that your profile is causing the problem, does it happen on anyone else profile?
I understand firefox works ok on a blank profile?
What information is stored within your profile? Something there appears corrupt.

I agree Emu, it is something within my profile but what?? could a bookmark cause it? should I try a different theme although I have always kept the same one. As I mentioned I did disable all my extensions and restarted FF but no change. I am thinking of creating a new profile but copying only my bookmarks and passwords for some of those sites. How would I go about doing that?? I can then take my time and get an extension at a time
It could be worse as it is only a minor nuisance but it is driving me crazy with not being able to figure it out
Thanks again

Personally i would create a new profile and then add (not copy) each book mark one at a time, this way if it's a bookmark then you should be able to identify whats causing it.
Do the same for all the other information/applications/extensions stored in the old profile.
Hopefully something will cause the problems so then you know what it is and stop using it.

I think you're right, I work on it and let you know

Just a quick update
Using a new profile I transferred my bookmarks using Foxmarks (thank you John). So far so good. I will add extensions as I go along and let you know if I find the culprit.
Thanks

Hello again
The new profile is doing good, have everything back that I need. I may have left off a couple of extensions from before but really didn't need or want them. I also found that I was using a "Theme" that was not compatible with 3.06 but I was using it as it let me.
Question now is do I leave that corrupt profile as is or delete it? and if I do delete it should I name the new profile "default" or is that not necessary
Thanks again for the help guys
E-Mu

I would delete the old profile as it's not needed anymore, the choice is yours tho and i mainly do that out preference.
As the new profile is working I'd leave it under the name that it is now.
