Since I upgraded to Ad-Aware Free Anniversary Edition, Windows Defender upon each boot-up asks me to give permission to Ad-Aware AE. Each time I give permission but WD keeps asking for permission again on the next boot.

Both these programs are active in my system tray.

My PC is running XP Pro SP3, which is fully patched. All apps are patched as indicated by Secunia's PSI.

I asked for help on the Ad-Aware forum but have received no replies.

This is not a serious issue, but I would like to stop Windows Defender from asking for permission each time, as indicated by the question mark that appears in its icon in the system tray.

Looks like the Ad-Aware AE (Anniversary Edition) forums are full of complaints and reported problems. I have not found a link in MS Newgroups in regard to this issue. Is Defender providing any further information other than asking for permission to allow Ad-aware. Could be that Defender is detecting the new service or one of the other files which have been added to the Anniv. Edition.

mvps.org is no longer recommending Spybot S&D or Ad-Aware due to poor testing results. See here - (scroll down and read under Freeware Antispyware Products)

Until a solution is ironed out, you may want to switch to Malwarebytes Anti-Malware which IMO is much more effective.

I've replied to your topic in the LS Support Forums, I'm not sure what's causing this but we'll try and troubleshoot and see if anyone else can help.

I would imagine that this is definitely a Windows Defender issue as others are not reporting it.

Oddly, this issue went away after about two weeks of being a bother. Windows defender one day stopped asking me to give permission to Ad-Aware.

Firstly it's of 2008 NOT AE. Secondly poor results? Who conducted the test, what were the results? Thirdly, Ad-Aware DOES NOT bundle the ask toolbar - this is just completely wrong.

Apparently, there has not been significant improvement in AE to warrant changing the recommendation made by Microsoft MVPs

As for the toolbar, the Ad-ware folks claimed they were going to bundle it for installation by default.

That was interesting reading, thanks quietman7 but no, I can confirm, at least for now that there is no bundled toolbar with any installation of ad-aware.

That was an interesting read... Though I too can say that there is no toolbar installation... I have used Adaware for at least 5 maybe 6 years now... I have never had anything bundled with any of their installation packages... I have also found Adaware to be one of the best anti-spyware programs out there... Though I have not used Malware bytes, which I might try...

I have only 64 bit processors... Yet Malware bytes only supports 32bit... Adaware removes root kits, Malware bytes is only spyware and malware...
Coming from 10 years in the game, I would choose Adaware hands down...

I used Adaware SE for 2years no problem upgraded to AE and it wouldn't run a full scan It would crash after about 10 minutes Tried reloading it two times after that i just deleted it.And now I just use zone alarm and avast pro.

I was using Adaware SE as well, then I upgraded to AE, I haven't had a single problem... Just curious... Did it do anything other then just hang up?

Huh, That's funny I have both with no problems. Try upgrading them both to the most current version.
