Herk
Sep 14 2004, 11:17 PM
I got my handle many years ago from an email correspondent - probably thirteen or fourteen years, IIRC.
We were both into reading mysteries and started signing our emails with mystery characters and the like. One day I signed off "Hercule" - as in Poirot. The next day, she addressed the email to "Herk" and it stuck.
Travelling around the net, I find that everywhere I go, somebody named Herk has already used that name there, and I often just sign up as Herkv ("v" for five, since I often find that Herk1, Herk2, Herk3 and so on are already used, too.)

Triglav
Sep 15 2004, 09:10 AM
Triglav is a mountain in Slovenia, the highest mountain of Slovenia. It is situated in the National Park Triglav.
I was there on holiday 5 years ago or so, and it was so great: no tourists, no advertising signs, no ski-elevators and the hiking cabin only sold selfmade soup!!
I walked to the top of Tosc, it was so quit up there, you could here pieces of rocks fall down...
aaah, memories....

O.K. me too. I just had to say that I find the baby being kicked just a little on the offensive side. Some things just aren't funny. .............Triglav & Herk are very cool names. Triglav what is your avatar?

Here ya go Phawgg.

...........The show's title "Monty Python's Flying Circus" was derived from the BBC's initial idea of "John Cleese's Flying Circus". John did not want the show to revolve around him and as a result he suggested "Python" and Eric Idle suggested "Monty". .....Not as interesting as one would think, huh?

...........Now to get back on topic

..... There are a lot of new members here. How did you all get your names????

diggem
Oct 6 2004, 03:07 PM
Well, I suppose I can share......LOL
Diggem is a name I came up with when creating a character for the old RPG game Ultima Online. We had organized a guild of Player Killers(PK) which was called "The Cereal Killers" hence my full name was Diggem Smacks, I have since shortened it to Diggem. Some other cool names from the group back then was Capt N Crunch, Cocoa Crispies, and Trix.
Fun game for the times but required way too much time, which I have since not had to play.
Good name I think nonetheless !!!!

LoLucky
Dec 6 2004, 10:44 AM
Well here goes mine late as usual but nonetheless here
I change my name like some change their underwear /shiver
My name Started out on AOL as: LoLuckyve = Lucky in Love = LO lucky VE
Get it got it good!
Well after a Few years of this name being completely not true, (sob story) and things on AOL with friends and enemies. I decided to change it. I thought about it a month or so and decided to make it: LoLucky = Low Lucky = because I was Low in luck at the time
One day I called to cancel AOL because, I was tired of bending over and taking it where the sun don't shine, and I got Broadband so only used AIM not E-Mail. They canceled it, then when I tried to sign on AIM as LoLucky it said the Account couldn’t be accessed. I called up AOL and this was at the time when they decided to make AIM and AOL accounts on same server. Since I created LoLucky for AOL I would have to keep Paying for it, or wait 5+ years for the account to be re-released, to keep using LoLucky. But everyone knew me AS LoLucky, so I decided to pay for it that was 3 years ago and I’m still paying for it $2.95 a Month (account is on Hold) (I’m still bending over for them)
Now everything I have is LoLucky, and on sites that make you sign up with Alphanumeric Username I stay away from them.
When I started College some people in my college Dorm found out my handle, and all of a sudden teachers and classmates were calling me LoLucky. Now I’m out of college and still get called LoLucky, some people even snail-mail me as LoLucky. (Post Office Knows)
I’ve been thinking about changing it again, but I have no clue where I would go from here. One day I might just be known as L! (HeHe) But that’s a ways down the road.

MadameX
Dec 12 2004, 12:19 PM
I choose my name from the movie by the same name "MadameX"
As a teenager my mom and I would watch the movie every time it came on tv. We ALWAYS wound up bawling!
So, when I was joining some of these forums, it came to mind and I chose it.

The reason behind it may seem boring. Maybe.. But the end result is pretty cool. I like it.
Bear
Apr 9 2005, 12:22 AM
Well I guess Bear, came from my now 18 year old daughter. She told me one day I was as grouchy as an old Bear (no way not me)
and that I needed to hibernate for the winter and wake up in a better mood. That was when she was 10 years old so I've had this nick name for a while now.
yano
Apr 9 2005, 12:50 AM
Well the first four letter of my last name are
YANO (my nickname at school

) and when we got AOL (

) back in 1999 we were trying to come up with screen names, well my dad suggested to add WHIZ since I'm so good with computers, and we just stuck it at the end.

So the end result
YANO + WHIZHowever, I've been thinking about dropping the H cause I wanna get my license plate YANOWHIZ but that doesn't fit on license plates...

catweazle
Apr 15 2005, 11:55 AM
A children's fantasy comedy drama series in the 1970's. An 11th century wizard Catweazle, that's him up on the left (nothing like me honestly :-) ) accidentally transports himself to the 20th century whilst trying to escape from some Norman soldiers, he is befriended by a young boy and finds that everything around him is magic. He had a pet Toad or 'familiar' which he called touchwood. Happy memories and a link thanks to Jack the haack...

Coz
Apr 18 2005, 04:09 PM
My nick comes from one of my favorite musicals 'Les Miserables'. In it's long form that I use in RPGing it's 'Cozette'. I use to use 'Eponine'...but that sorta sounded like some sorta drug or disease. So Cozette it became. For the sake of saving time it got shortened down to Coz. ;)
My real name is Tish. ;) I mention that because in places that 'feel' real and are important to me...I often slip and sign off a message using Tish without thinkin'. Originally Trish for Patricia.
My youngest brother had a lisp as a toddler and could never get his 'R's' out correctly...so I turned into a Tish. Stuck from that day on. It helped out alot growing up, though. There were a ton of Trish, Trisha, Patricias etc...but I was the only Tish. ;)
mandoora
Apr 18 2005, 10:41 PM
I used to play a bit of counter strike and used the handle "el tweeto mandoora" which was a conjured up spanish alias to 'bird man' which is an extention of my nick name amoungst friends 'birdie'... this I got from spending quite some time talking to a bird at the local pet shop.. after smoking some interesting tea...
Anyways, the long and short of it, mandoora ended up being the alias I use when performing solo (as opposed to with a band)... and I am the only person on the net that I am aware of that uses this as a handle... makes it easy for user names etc.

Leurgy
Apr 20 2005, 08:54 PM
Some time ago I used to know a woman from Scotland who spoke about the Dreaded Leurgy to describe a cold or flu, as in "I'm staying in bed today as I have the Dreaded Leurgy". Somehow that became convoluted over time to become synonymous with the Boogeyman, and we used to tease the kids by saying things like, "Watch out or the Dreaded Leurgy's gonna get you".
One day as I was digging through a big freezer my niece stopped to ask me what I was looking for. "The Dreaded Leurgy", I told her. "Uncle Jimmy, I think your the Dreaded Leurgy", she replied. And so it stuck.
Scarlett
Apr 20 2005, 09:07 PM
Now that is quite an interesting story. I always wondered how you came across such an unique name.
There was a young woman from Scotland......
Leurgy
Apr 20 2005, 09:22 PM
No, no, no it wasn't that young woman from Scotland.
I used to keep a small carry all kind of case in my car that was full of little magic tricks and puzzles and the like when all the kids were younger. I'd stop at toy stores and pick some new things up about once a month. (I'm speaking of nieces and nephews as I have never had kids of my own unfortunately). They were always excited when I came to visit cause they all wanted to see what was in the "Dreaded Leurgy Bag" now.
Had a lot of fun with that one.
