ok heres the situation, I have a xp home computer with a 250GB HD over a gig of ram, new motherboard, and absolutly no spyware, malware or viruses. the system drags and lags. I have edited and tweeked beyond belief on this thing trying to speed it up and have done some good but it doesent even compare to another computer that i have with less ram and a smaller processor ( it Flies ). both FSB speeds are the same so i am not understanding why the xp home lags so bad. It usually takes three times the time to boot, open mozilla, or any program for that matter. not sure what to do about it help....

What does taskmanager show as far as CPU/memory usage when it is lagging?

Do you know the actual model of your processor? Single/Dual Core? Clock Speed?

try doing a chkdsk /r

Start/run/chkdsk /r/click ok

notice the space between the k and the /

At the command prompt type the letter y press enter
chkdsk cannot run at this time...another volume is using it
restart your computer....

and run a cleaner heres clean-up
