Hi All, I purchased Avira AntiVir Premium AntiVirus three weeks ago. It works fine for about a week and then I lose my MailGuard and sometimes my WebGuard. I go to the control panel in all programs and click on it as they suggest and then click on repair or change to modify it. I then recieve this message: " The installation of LSP failed. Repair LSP stack and reinstall MailGuard". I have done this so many times it has just become pointless. I just keep losing protection and repairing LSP stack and that doesn't work all the time. I have to do a restore back to when it was working. I have even un-installed it and re-installed it and after four or five days it happens again. I would appreciate it so much if someone could recommend a good AntiVirus (not a suite) that will work with my pc. I am running Vista Home Premium 64 bit. I have a Hp Pavilion Elite. Note: I tried Norton Internet Security Suite 2009 and it just froze up my pc and I had too un-installed it. Thank you.

Try the following;

• Go to Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> right click on the Command Prompt and choose Run as administrator.
• Type netsh winsock reset in the Command Prompt window, and then press the Enter key.
• Restart the computer.
• Go to add or remove programs in control panel and select Avira Premium Security Suite.
• Press Change.
• Select Modify and make sure all the boxes are checked, then click Next.
• Restart the computer.

This should reset the LSP stack, and renew AntiVir's LSP & hopefully this will resolve it straight off.

Hi Emu, thank you for taking up your private time to try to resolve the LSP problem. The solution you posted I did so many times that I ended up realizing that it was just pointless. It would stay good for 4 or 5 days and just happen again. I spend hours in the Avira AntiVir forums reading and trying to find a permanent solution but to no avail. That said I went ahead and uninstalled it and took my losses as I did with Norton Security Suite 2009. I had already downloaded the newest version of Avast Home which is free so I installed it, and spent the rest of the day reading everything to get a good understanding about it. To my pleasant surprise it is working well on my 64 bit and I am having no problems so far. I really like the Web guard feature it has. It is also not conflicting with my SpySweeper whatsoever. I will run it for awhile and then decide if I should invest in the (Pro) version. Any opinion on that?? I am also considering installing Commodo firewall since I never have had a firewall. They are very hard to understand, (what to accept and what to deny). I had done a Shields Up and wow, I failed big time. I read that Vista leaves most of the ports open just to run Vista properly. Again, I can't thank you enough for your help.

I'm currently running the free version Avira and i too have no problems what so ever, running on XP Pro & Vista 32bit.

You really should have a firewall installed and running at all times, i would reccommend Comodo as a great free program to use. When you first start using it, just about anything you do you will have a prompt from Comodo, until it learns what you want to run and what is safe to be running.

Eg, like opening a web browser, comodo will ask you if its ok to run it, you just select it as a trusted application and from then on when you open it Comodo will allow it to run no problems.

They also have support forums for any questions plus there is always someone here who could answer and quries.
