System Restore has stopped restoring to a previous date. I went back as far as Nov. 1, 2008 and the message appeared that the previous date selected could not be restored.

The file for System Restore is restorpt.api and it's not on my computer. I can make a restore point, but cannot revert back to a previous date.

Can someone please help me fix it?

Have you tried purging your restore points and creating a new one? It should be safe to do as long as you know that your system is running correctly and isn't infected with anything.


Create a New Restore Point

The easiest and safest way to do this is:

• Go to Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools and click "System Restore".
• Choose the radio button marked "Create a Restore Point" on the first screen then click "Next". Give the R.P. a name, then click "Create". The new point will be stamped with the current date and time. Keep a log of this so you can find it easily should you need to use System Restore.

• Then use Disk Cleanup to remove all but the most recently created Restore Point.
• Go to Start > Run and type: Cleanmgr
• Click "Ok". Disk Cleanup will scan your files for several minutes, then open.
• Click the "More Options" tab, then click the "Clean up" button under System Restore.
• Click Ok. You will be prompted with "Are you sure you want to delete all but the most recent restore point?"
• Click Yes, then click Ok.
• Click Yes again when prompted with "Are you sure you want to perform these actions?"
• Disk Cleanup will remove the files and close automatically.

I fixed System Restore yesterday. All I did was to uncheck it, reboot, re-check and that was it. To test it, I made a new restore point and named it Test. I waited for about 15 minutes and hit restore and it was successful.

Unchecking that box purges the restore points and re-checking it turns restore back on and creates a new point, so you pretty much did what I suggested Even if you didn't realize it

your way seemed much more complex than that xblindx lol, just had to give alittle sarcasm :-p lol

I tried CC Cleaner before and it removed things I didn't want removed, so I don't use it anymore. So my way was the best way.

I didn't recommend CCleaner. The instructions I provided were to use Disk Cleanup, which is a feature built into Windows.

Forgive me, you certainly didn't mention CC Cleaner.
