I_am_CanadianEh?
I've been having this issue for a few weeks now.

I boot up my computer and everything is up and ready to go as usual. I then decide to open up my browser....nothing happens. The hard drive fires up then slows down, but nothing shows up on my screen. I then try again...nothing.

I will then right click on a file and try and rename....NOTHING!

I can move my mouse and the menu pops up when I click on the start menu. I can also access the right-click menu, but none of the commands respond.

This happens occassionaly on startup. CTRL-ALT-DELETE doesn't function. For crap sakes, I can't even shutdown, log-off or restart the computer!! smashcomp.gif smashcomp.gif

This is starting to wear me very thin. I have had more problems with Vista then any other Operating system. Gees, even Windows ME didn't cause me half the trouble. I'm fully patched, but I get more blue screens, more hung programs and bad shutdowns then my old Win 98 box!

My only shot at getting my computer to behave is to do a hard start (hold on button for about 5 seconds). Once I reboot, everything goes back to normal. I never know when this thing will happen again.

I grabbed this from the event log at the time the problem began:

This may sound like I'm out in left field, but do you have a printer hooked up? Make and model if yes
I_am_CanadianEh?
Printer, Yes.
HP Officejet 5610 All-in-One

The only printer thing I have running at startup is the HP Software Update.

BTW - I've had the printer hooked up for about 7 months. This issue is only about 1 month old.

I lost that one link anyways. Have you made any changes in msconfig or Services?

No, I haven't.

I appreciate the links that you gave me but I couldn't make out what was being said.

Any clues to the Event Log and what it means? Would the Windows Debugging tools (which I have installed) help determine the source of the problem? I know this is what you use for BSOD's....don't know if Events can be debugged?

Any other thoughts? mellow.gif

Thanks.
