Hey, I would like to change the folders in the list circled in red. Does anyone have a mod or know where to go the settings to do this?

Thanks
Klink

Hello Klinkaroo

You can right click on the Start button to get some options for customization.
You can right click on the individual items to get even more options.

Beyond that it'll be very difficult to change those icons as they're not easily accessible to the average user.

Thank You both, usasma that was pretty close, I managed to get rid of the Games folder but sadly I can't add any folders with that customization menu.

If I can't do it directely from windows anyone got a mod or something for it?

Thanks again
Klink.

In my searches I found one program that could possibly do this - but it was hosted at a known spyware site. Not a good thing!

To locate the appropriate keys in the registry (if they exist), you can use a registry comparison tool. Then set the tool to running, make the change, and then check the tool to see what keys have been changed. In Vista there's a lot of stuff going on in the background, so you'd have to make use of filters in the registry comparison tool to eliminate some of the unrelated stuff.

Once you've found the appropriate keys, then it becomes a matter of trial and error. You're messing around in some of the essential portions of the registry here, so I'd strongly suggest that you backup your registry and make a system restore point before making any changes. It wouldn't hurt to research the methods of restoring the registry when Windows won't load also - it'll save a lot of headaches later on.

If those keys don't exist, then it's likely that those things are coded into one of the system files (most likely explorer.exe). If that's the case, then you'll have to figure out how to "hack" explorer.exe to make it show what you want. I have no idea about how to do this, but suspect it's similar to the "hack" to rename the Start button that was popular for Windows XP.

Is this what you're looking for? http://www.winhelponline.com/articles/214/...dows-Vista.html

Edit... nope, I read your question again. You may find something from the Website, tho'.
