Hey guys, well I have a problem with these colorded vertical lines going down my HP Pavilion laptop screen. They first appeard a couple months ago, but then there was only like two very skinny lines. But now its getting kind of bad. I was wondering what is causing it, and is there a way to get rid of them?

garmanma
2 things to try. Download and reinstall the video driver. It could possibly be overheating. Use a can of compressed air and blow out the vents
Worth a shot

And how do i reinstall the video drive. mellow.gif

garmanma
I would continue. It won't damage anything. The file you already have could be corrupt
Banks
I downloaded the program ran it, clicked yes all to the download, restarted my computer and the lines are still there. =[
garmanma
Do you have a desktop monitor around that you can plug into to see if the picture is OK on that?
Banks
ummm no i do not.

my friend said it might be because i have too much stuff on my desktop? but i dont really have too much. just music could that be it?

Can you look inside any vents and check if they're clogged with dust?
Banks
Hmmm i blew in pretty much all the vents...with my mouth though. d0nt kn0w if that w0rks.

The screenshot of your desktop doesn't have the lines, so it isn't being caused by any software, including drivers.

The most likely cause is high impedance connections in the internal looms in the LCD panel itself. As garmanma suggested, temporarily connecting up a regular monitor will check if the video signal itself has the problem. If an external monitor shows no lines, the fault is almost certainly in the LCD panel.
Banks
so theres no way to get ride of them?
Platypus
Sorry for not getting back to you, I had some illness.

If the fault is proven to be in the LCD panel, there's not going to be any thing you'll be able to do about it yourself, other than get the panel replaced, which would be expensive.
