I have gotten most of the hijackers and trojans out but I am still getting popups...any suggestions on how to get the rest of this stuff off here? running Windows XP Pro, ran spybot and combofix and things are mostly back to normal. but I know there is something still on here from the way it is popping up antivirus and registry defender windows whenever I open IE. I posted something in the Windows XP forum before I saw this one...thank you!

• Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
• Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
• When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
• When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
  • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
• Then click Finish.
• MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan. If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
• On the Scanner tab:
  • Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected.
  • Then click on the Scan button.
• If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
• The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
• When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
• Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
• Back at the main Scanner screen, click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
• Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
• When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad.
• The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
• Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.

Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you may be asked to reboot your computer so it can proceed with the disinfection process. Reagardless if prompted to restart the computer or not, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot normally (not into safe mode) will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

The log shows that a reboot is required to remove some items. Reboot your computer and then re-run the scan to see if everything was removed.

also, I ran MBAM on some of our other machines, and it is finding things we didn't know we had. you are a total lifesaver...

so that found 17 adware tracker cookies and removed them.

I had no idea things had gotten this advanced, it's been a while since I've had any problems I guess. It's good to know the good guys are keeping up with the bad guys - this new software is great.

Tracking cookies are nothing much to worry about.

If you’re clean, you should create a new Restore Point to prevent possible re-infection from an old one.

Go Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools and click System Restore. Choose the radio button marked Create a Restore Point on the first screen then click Next. Give the Restore Point a name and then click Create. Then use Disk Cleanup to remove all but the most recently created Restore Point. Go Start > Run and type: "Cleanmgr" (without the quotes). Click Ok > More Options tab > Clean Up in the System Restore section to remove all previous restore points except the newly created one.

ok, did that. I had turned off system restore when this first happened, just in case. but you never know!

the problem is that at home I run Firefox with a script blocker so I am used to having more control then I have with IE at work.
