Hello guys,

I have 2 computers and my old one (my first PC) doesn't want to start up. If I press the power switch and all that happens is there is a quiet humming (no fan working at the back) sound and shows nothing on the screen. If I can get working again I will like to use it a spare. Below is the specs:

P3 500Mhz
3MB on-board graphics card
sound card
15" CRT Monitor
56K Modem
42x CD-ROM Drive
Standard Keyboard and Mouse.
Please help me.

Power supply may have croaked.
DO NOT OPEN THE POWER SUPPLY to look for a fuse or for any other reason!

Switch off. Open the case and unplug the power supply connectors to everything, then plug the motherboard connector back in place. Remove all add-on cards except the graphics card.
Power on the screen and then the PC.
If all is well you will get a message about faulty floppy or 'Boot disc failure' on the screen. If so turn off and re-connect power connectors to other devices one at a time to see what is causing the problem.

If you get no message on the screen then its most likely the PSU.
