so im planning on building my own computer and successfully read a few books on it to back up the knowledge i already have. For the processor im planning on getting an AMD 62 x2 5000+ which shoud have dual cores i serched arond and found the cpu and motherboard are usally sold seperatley i know that you cant get any other motherboard to work with your cpu but what are the correct mother boards to look for to work with my amd chip im also intereted in availabe SATA slots and e a couple of PCI Expess slot x 16 im not a pro at computers yet but just making use of the knowledge im gathered help me plzzzzzzzzz!!!!

In choosing a motherboard, you want one which is compatible with socket AM2 (940-pin) processors. Some boards will indicate a combination such as AM/AM2, just stay focused on AM2.

There are also motherboard bundles (which often marry a CPU and a motherboard), which you may want to look at, before deciding on separates.

Probably the best advice I could give is...do the research before you spend your money. Get components that you know will do what you want done, in the manner that you want it done.

I think that you will find that most boards now only have 1 PATA/IDE slot, while having from 2-4 SATA slots. You can still use PATA a PATA hard drive and a PATA optical on that one slot (I have one of my systems set up this way), but you don't have to. And you could always add a controller if you had PATA drives which you wanted to use.

This should get you started, others will make inputs as time goes on.

ive done some research now decided to go for the lower version of 4800+ as the 5000+ dosent have and increse of power which would suitibly make up for the price difference
