are you using a router?
It could be the cable (UTP cable) connecting the router to your PC is the problem. Try to plug it on another Ethernet port of your router. Check your RJ-45 connectors on both ends of the cable, it might be loose. Or, if you have an extra UTP cable, try changing it.
I assumed, both your Desktop and laptop are connected on the same gateway/router. If your laptop has no problem at all connecting to the internet, the problem lies between the desktop and your gateway/router.
It is also, better, if you tell us what comcast had suggested on you, so we can come up with (maybe) some other solutions, besides the one they suggested.

Lets renew your connection to the gateway.
- Go to Start -> Run.
- In the Box, type in "cmd".
- A black box will appear. Type in: "ipconfig /release".
- After it is done releasing. Type in: "ipconfig /renew".
- This should renew your connection with your gateway.
I'd like to see some more information. Please follow the steps below.
- Go to Start -> Run.
- In the Box, type in "cmd".
- A black box will appear. Type in: "ipconfig /all".
- A lot of information will appear, Please right click the black window and hit mark.
- Select every line of text you recieved and hit "enter" to copy.
- Then paste it into your next reply.

the machine you ran this Ipconfig /all on should work on the internet through wireless.
After you refreshed / renewed did you still experience these problems?
