I have already bought 5MB ram, giving me a total of 1 GB. I can get one more GB for this computer. The last "chip"(?) I bought was from makers of computer, EMachines, but would rather do business with New Egg. Where can I find out what type or brand of RAM for my machine?

How about if you tell us what model your emachine is and we can look for you? One of the best companies for RAM is Crucial, and if you go to their web site you can use either their scan or their configurator to find out what RAM they suggest. They will tell you what type of RAM is compatible, how much per slot, and if it is able to operate in dual channel. You can visit the Crucial web site here.
