basicaly my pc is unstable when playing graphical games and not able to play dvds smoothly.
it crashes to a restart when playing games and then takes about 3 mins to check the ram.

some info about my sys. it's getting on a bit.

cpu intel p4 2.4
ram 512 mb 133 mhz memory timings on auto.

iv done a fair bit of internet searching. to find people saying it memory timings cause of the old m/b or its me power suply failing

I think you'd be better off in the hardware forums
I'm moving you there
Blerdus
Cheers.
I think you're right.

since a couple of days ago the problem has changed a bit.
running a game or sitting on desktop, plays for a bit then: black screen, keyboard lock. hdl on tho no audiable action. wait couple mins. screen refresh. reboot.

when sitting on desktop the crash is not black screen but pixels placed evenly accross the screen. and the corrupted looking mouse freezes 10 or so secs later. manual reboot req.

but after it reboots it got to the the mem check and then appeared to have crashed, keyb lock aswell. but wait 10 to 15 mins..... hello RAM.
drives aswell.
the rest seems to boot ok. windows runing. untill the next crash

i removed a dimm.
ram check resolved. so far,i think. altho i have run memtests for a day with no errors.
but ide still slow on detection
hmm
oh and CMOS user interface lag. no i havent flashed it. tho i was thinking about it.

any way, i only wanted to wright a coulpe of lines and its turned in to a book. oops

steve.

First thing to do is to disable restart when you get a BSOD
http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org/
Then you can copy/paste the error message, in its entirety, here so we can have a look at it
Blerdus
thanks for responding so soon.
ok. how to disable restart on crash?
msconfig maybe?
once iv disabled it i will have to wait untill it crashes as nothing i do can forc a crash. even running video stability tests and memtest's. they seem to run all day long, not a prob.
does the system make logs of the errors befor it crashes? i ask because i'v never seen a message pop up or BSOD's. i also dont get "your systen has recovered from a serious error" message when i reboot.
i'm sort of convinced its memmory problems but the tests say ok sad.gif
speak soon.

i'v got the last minidump. that happend today 21:50 and i got one that happend at 13:30. if u want.
Blerdus
i'v been looking at some event logs arround those times there are errors but not much info.
Unknown error on CMDre 00000000 00000088 88100060 00000004 00000084 source "nv" time 13:30:12
then there's two event logs "6005 + 6009" one min later, saying user restarted
and then moments later "The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x100000ea (0xff322da8, 0xf9bc4320, 0xf8a61cb4, 0x00000001). A dump was saved in: C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini072908-01.dmp.

this also happend at 21:51:45

If you have more than one stick of memory, you can try one at a time to see if the other is bad. you can also run Memtest
http://www.memtest.org/
Blerdus
yep got memtest the other day. memtest doesn't return any bad results. ran twice so far . 10 hours and 16. wife ended tests with zero errors.
Blerdus
well i notice its a different memtest to the one i d/l the other day. i havent run ur version yet. cant find any blank media.

system crashed again today. it still rebooted. even with that option unchecked.
event viewer had an error report saying

Error code 000000ea, parameter1 fe0f77c8, parameter2 82d45638, parameter3 ff107550, parameter4 00000001.

any ideas. i looked on microsoft site and it says something about vga device loop or something. up-date drivers.
im sure iv got the latest drivers
Blerdus
hi Garmanma

had my first bsod in a long while with no restart.
it said nv4_disp got stuck in an infinate loop

STOP: 0x000000ea (0xFBAB5020,0XFF468F60,0XF8A2DLB4,0X00000001)

I guess i got to reinstall my graphics drivers again. i'v lost count how many times i'v installed these drivers.
shawly they cant be faulty every time i install.

I await your response.
steve.
Blerdus
ok well finally ran ur memtest.
