I'm running a toshiba turion 64x2 amd computer with vista os, i have a s cable outlet on the side of the lap top. Can I play a video from my laptop and have it "project" onto our large tv using the s cable outlet on the tv. If so, what program do I need to run. Or is there some place in Vista I go to do this.

This should be built into the Toshiba, but you're going to have to go to Help and Support for the exact instructions. On my desktop I've got to have a cable plugged into the TV, then I've got to open the Windows Media Center and get it to recognize the TV. After that it's fairly easy to display.
