Hello ComputerMan23,

You may need drivers rather than a codec. What is the make/model number of your audio hardware?

Hmm how do i figure that out??

Well under the System Infortmation window I have:

Name: SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC
Manufactuer: SigmaTel
Status: Error
PMP Device ID HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_76A0&SUBSYS_102801FD&REV_1002\4&39D9EA1F&0&0001

Does that help?

A codec is used to play audio as it codes and decodes the audio files. A driver allows for the hardware responsible to play sound.

Can you look in the system's device manager for any conflicts or errors?
Start=>control panel=>system=>hardware tab=>device manager.
