hi can any one suggest a free video editing program suitable for a toshiba 1800s/254 1ghz 376 ram inc graphic support 30 gig hard drive 2port usb2 card 2port firewire card 40 gig external hard drive i tried wmm did'nt rate it, cheers finbar

adobe premiere pro if you have the middle earth ££££'s
i have it, but it is so overpowering most of the time i just use ShowBiz 2 much liter and easier to use
or search on-line for the sorf-ware that should of come with the camera

The only free video editor I know of is VirtualDub, It can read (Not write) MPEG 2 now, plus it has filters for adjusting color, contrast, sharpness. ETC. No menu's though.

I use Arcsoft Showbiz, and Screenblast Movie Studio. (not free)
Nero sometimes, though I don't recommend it because it crashes on me quite a bit.

You can get Adobe Premiere Elements for under $100.

thanks splodge i will try out an on line search for the soft ware,12x48y i have downloaded virtualdub there is now a 1.8 version so i will put it to the test this weekend,i feel a cheapscape asking for free downloads but i use my old laptop as much as i can sorting out my own problems as i go,with a small occupational pension i can only afford the essentials so thanks to you guys i keep going many thanks finbar

try you use Ulead Studio,Pannical Studio,Adobe Primer,or Sony Vegas or FX Home, and 1 thing again is Adobe after effect...

i think better again u use Pannical for ur computer....it will work...

I still say the best way to capture video is with a standalone DVD recorder
that can be had for about $150.00 at Wallmart. The video will (usually) be in an MPEG 2 format that can be imported to the PC for editing if need be. But that's just my .02.

My copy of Showbiz 2 came bundled with an HP light scribe DVD burner. (If I remember correctly). I can't recommend the HP burner because mine crapped within a year of purchase, and HP didn't honor the one year warranty. But if your in the market for a DVD burner. And if you live near a Wallmart, I suppose you could always buy one, (check the box to see what, if any video editor, comes with it.) instal the editor, and try it out, if you don't like it, bring it back to Wallmart and get your money back. Keep your receipt, don't wait too long bringing it back. My copy of showbiz still works, even though the DVD burner is long gone.

Let us know how you make out. I'm interested on what you find, and what works for you.

Use the trial versions of after effects + adobe premiere if you want, and dont need the programs forever.

It really depends on how you want to edit your videos..

well guys you certainly gave me a bunch of numbers to digest, time for the conclusion which i think 12x48y knew from the start what the answer would be, i tried what you all suggested and i figure that at 256 ram i aint going no where fast, some programs gave reasonable video playback but rubbish audio and some the other way around, so a dvd recorder with divx capabilities is the order of the day. 12x48y we over here in england have asda which is owned by wallmart and they are selling at approx £79.00 $103 but the on line news is that philips are selling off the 3380 recorder which is now old hat for half price £45.00 $67.50 so this has to be the way to go, the editing will have to be done ad hoc from the camcorder using stop and go, its messy and time consuming but better than nothing. so endeth the saga of the video editing program many thanks to you all for your input and i hope that any one browsing this forum will find your advice and knowledge helpful for their problems, finbar
