When I request Windows Media Player (WMP) 10 to open a music file on the HD, it does, but there is no sound.
Winamp will successfully play Winamp files. Other sound applications work.

I tried System Restore, but maybe need to go back further. Problem here is I am not sure when WMP stopped working.
I tried rolling back to WMP 9, then reinstalling WMP 10. No go.

Looking at the registry (with jv 16), I see the following:
File or directory "C:\WINDOWS\system32\enable.dvd" does not exist
Can this be a cause? yes there is no sound when I use WMP 10 to play a dvd, but also music files.

How about this: File or directory "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Sonic Shared\Sonic Central\Main\Mediahub.exe" does not exist?

Many thanks for any help with this...

Hi soyeso9, and welcome to BleepingComputer.

Have you looked in the Device Manager to see if there are any warnings or error in the DVD/CD-ROM?

For some reason I cannot locate "Device Manager".
I use XP Home version.
Thanks

Press Start>Run> type "devmgmt.msc" (without the quotes)>Enter.... If this doesn't work then I would suggest that you have a much deeper problem....

Thanks...OK Device Manager says the Drive is working alright
