Oh dear please can anyone help me. I have just received today a new AMD Athlon 3200 comp. My son loaded all windows xp stuff and motherboard drivers. It all worked fine. He then took stuff out of old computer and decided to try and put the old ram in new com as well. The old ram was 256 ddr and the new ram is 512ddr400.
Ever since then the computer power comes on (we can see fans running), but that is it. The monitor is blank , it just stays on standby. He took the old ram out, but it is still the same. I only wanted my isdn modem fitted. But now I have a dead computer.
I tried contacting the company, but of course I have invalidated the warranty by opening back up.
We think we have made sure all cables are connected.

Please help.. You are my last chance.

Make sure you took out the right ram. Also take out the existing ram, and put it back in, firmly making sure its in place. Check all cables, make sure all other cards are firmly seated. Make sure the cable going to the motherboard from the power supply is connected..etc

Thanks. I think the comp is dead and buried. My husband has taken everything out, checked it and put it all back again, but it is exactly the same. The computer doesn't bleep on boot up though, so perhaps it is just the fans I can hear working.

This is my suggestion.
unplug the computer from the wall outlet.
open it up and unplug the molex plug from the power supply to the main board.
locate the manufacturer name or serial number and search for said board on the net.
find a user manual and instructions on resetting the board.
sometimes removing the CMOS battery will suffice and sometimes
you need to move a jumper to reset the board.
It might be in a state of "shock" (internal protection) from installing the
wrong memory.
