Help please.

I have a laptop and have just purchased a wireless router. Set up has gone fine and the internet connection is ok.

I only have the one laptop and want to be able to use it around the house, but if I disconnect the router from the laptop I lose the internet connection and cannot reconnect wirelessly. Can the router work as a standalone or does it have to be connected to a pc?

Did the router that you purchased come with a wireless adapter to plug into your laptop (via PCMIA slot or USB)? If it didn't that is what you need for a wireless connection. Just make sure that it matches the router ie: if it is Linksys buy a Linksys adapter...Others may work but if you get one that is designed for your particular router than there shouldn't be any problems getting it to install and work properly...
