I'm trying to find out how to disable Windows Messenger Service aka MSGSRV32.EXE on windows me. I did try going into the registry search and removing the run for MSGSRV32.EXE but that causes windows to hang on startup. Had to restore the registry to get windows back to running. I don't use this bleeping thing and it didn't load originaly. But some ware along the line probably in some of microsofts mal-ware like their bloated upgrades to internet explorer or media player ware the installer is twice the size of all installed components it got loaded, and I can't get rid of the critter.

Shoot the Messenger
http://www.grc.com/stm/shootthemessenger.htmIf you use Outlook Express, it may still be slow to open after using Shoot The Messenger. You can disable it in OE this way.
http://www.theeldergeek.com/prevent_messen...ook_express.htmOr:
http://www.mvps.org/marksxp/WindowsXP/mess.../messenger2.phpOr for Sp1, look here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/327390It's been a long time since I did it, but I think I disabled it in the components after running Shoot The Messenger, which is talked about in the Sp1 link.

Thanks for the info, the GRC APP looks the easiest, but I'll track them all
