Hi, I currently have an older computer with everything new except a motherboard and cpu.
Currently, I have a pentium 3 1.0 GHz cpu, overclocked at a maximum of 1.16 GHz. I found a 1.4 GHz cpu that is compatible and I was wondering if I should buy it for the price of 60 $. Will there be a great speed improvement? Or should I just get rid of it (I dont really want to buy a new computer wink.gif ).
Thanks,

-Matt

I don't think you would see much improvement. I overclock my core 2 duo processor from 2.0ghz to 2.8ghz, and I only see a small performance increase. You'd be better off saving up for a new computer.

yeah, for 60$ that upgrade isn't worth it. You can probably build you own computer for ~400$ USD, and get something thats running 5x faster than that thing.

ok, I found a motherboard/cpu combo with a pentium dual core 2.20 GHz, 2048 mb of ram, a fan, and a new power supply, all for about 180 dollars. smile.gif new

see, exactly. A P3 proccessor is so outdated, its not worth upgrading. P4s are on the edge of being in that range. Actually, that 180$ computer sounds like a really good deal.

Dont DO iT!!!! Just start saving to upgrade the whole computer. You can get a nice Pentium dual core for around that price and it would be a night and day difference in speed.
