I was wondering where the processor was.
The only thing I might add to this would be a soundcard. Do you have any info on the processor?

cant remember which

By the way, what heatsink are you using?

It would be intergrated on the mobo, I still would go for a creative sound card of some sort.

Okay, I've looked more deeply on Scan.co.uk, Overclockers.co.uk and ebay (lol)
Heres what Im thinking. I'm not really interested in the sound card, that can be a later addition when I get my paycheck.. I'm buying this with my tax back from work :-)

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-MA78G-DS3H AMD 780G (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard. £58.74, incl VAT and shipping. (as do the rest of the items)

Nice CPU, I just bought one. As you said, double check the size of your case. I'm not familiar with you heat sink. I used a Zalman and it does take up quite a bit of room

My friend has it, and says you can overclock it to 3.2 :-)
Maybe this cooler?
http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo...roductID=405603It should fit in my case.. Dimensions of case (WxHxD) 193.4 x 418.5 x 513.4mm

That's the one I have. Just a note: It has a 3 pin plug and in the BIOS of my Abit motherboard, the default setting is for 4 pin. Be sure to check yours. Also be sure to follow these instructions for using the thermal compound

PC looks good. I would consider the Xonar line of sound cards over any Creative cards first. I have the same PSU and it works very well, no complaints. I would double-check the case size, many of the after market coolers, Zalman coolers for instance, take up a great deal of room. Also, consider the fact that graphics cards are getting longer and many mid-size ATX cases won't accommodate them...at least not without a little work. Since you want to run 3D Studio and Crysis, these games require a large amount computer resources, especially RAM, more is always better.

The case is compatible with the geforce 8800gts which is a massive card apparently.. so I hope it will fit. It is a gaming case afterall.
I know about the sources, but I can only get 1 more gb of ram before Id have to upgrade my system to vista, no?
If u want 4gb or more, gotta have a 64bit system, and i dont want the 64bit xp.... or vista... lol

The 8800GTS is not a massive card, the 8800 Ultra, 9800GTX, and 9800GX2 are though. I have a case the same size as yours and I cannot fit a 9800GTX inside of it, at least not without some creative mods. The card extends past the motherboard and into the hard disk cage. The largest card I can use, for now, is the 8800GTS 640MB and there is less than an inch between the card and the drives. A 32-bit OS can use 4GB, however, some of that space will be used for addressing so you'll have about 3-3.5GB of usable RAM. I completely understand not wanting XP-64, it's just not that good.

I might upgrade to 4gb later on when I have some spare money

Im hoping the card will fit inside!

Ok, Im changing the procesor to the AMD Phenom Quad Core 9600 Black Edition..
And the ram GeIL 2gb 1066mhz black dragon ddr2
Erm, garmanma, Is your fan good and quiet?? Would u recomend it to me since I'll be having this computer on for quite long periods of time, and most of the time it will either be playing a game, or rendering a piece of graphics.. ????

The fan will speed up under full load, but for the most part it's quiet. If that is a concern, Xoxide.com sells a soundproofing material that you can attach to the side panel that works rather well

A couple of hints
If using Arctic Silver, or any other silver bearing compounds, read the instructions on their site. You don't smear it all over the place. Silver bearing compound is conductive
You're going to add the memory and heatsink to the board before it's installed anyways, so now is the time to bench test it. Turn it on and see if it works
Double-check that the stand-offs are in the correct holes and nothing is touching the bottom of the board When mounting to the case
Carefully read the BIOS setup section of the manual. There's been changes with this new energy efficient stuff. On my board there was a setting for a three or four lead CPU fan connection

I have the cooling, mobo, processor, case, and psu at the moment.. Not everything is connected cuz I dont know where some of the bits go, (all the little pluggy things that came in the case, e.g. sound, LED, usb etc) Memory, HDD, gfx and something else should arrive on friday or saturday..
My friend is comming on the weekend to help me put it all together.

Oki, so:
amd phenom 2.3ghz, 2gb ram at 1066mhz, HIS HD 3870 iceq3 turbo gfx card....
So my whole computers up and running

but it takes quite a bit longer to start up that Id imagine and after the POST test (think thats the word) the screen is black for about 20seconds, before the xp loading splash screan comes up.... and when playing a few games, everyonce in a while, they either freeze or start lagging.. hmm
Thinkin about over clocking processor, any thoughts?
