My computer is fairly old but not to old and not in that bad shape i dont think
but ive been running into trouble because of the lack of space on the computer
it warns me that disk space is getting low so it says click and itll free up space..goes through a proccess then i click yes free the space that it said it could
but i download alot of music and within a bit it has the same thing happen and its getting worse and worse
what can i do to free space?

You could try this one.


* Clean your Cache and Cookies in IE:

• Close all instances of Outlook Express and Internet Explorer
• Go to Control Panel > Internet Options > General tab
• Click the "Delete Cookies" button
• Next to it, Click the "Delete Files" button
• When prompted, place a check in: "Delete all offline content", click OK

* Clean your Cache and Cookies in Firefox (In case you also have Firefox installed):

• Go to Tools > Options.
• Click Privacy in the menu on the left side of the Options window.
• Click the Clear button located to the right of each option (History, Cookies, Cache).
• Click OK to close the Options window
  Alternatively, you can clear all information stored while browsing by clicking Clear All.
  A confirmation dialog box will be shown before clearing the information.

* Clean other Temporary files + Recycle bin

• Go to start > run and type: cleanmgr and click ok.
• Let it scan your system for files to remove.
• Make sure Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin are the only things checked.
• Press OK to remove them.

* Or uninstall some programs that are not often used.


Maybe it would free up a couple of MB in your HD.

And maybe consider adding HD. Or a portable HD just like what I have, I just stick it like a USB. I save all my downloaded stuff there.
So I have no problem running out of space in HD.

If you download a lot of Music you should consider burning them to CD's or moving them to an external Hard drive...Both options are relatively inexpensive and easy to do.

The real problem with your lack of drive space is probably not the clutter of odds and ends; these you can easily remove on a scheduled basis even though the space freed will not, probably, be that great. Music and video files take a LOT of hard drive storage space, as do game applications (for example). It is to these files that you will have to look to free up significant space.
If you don't want to delete these files, then the only real solution is to store them elsewhere, either on a second internal hard drive or on disks (to mention the cheaper storage methods).

I have a usb stick that i use to put stuff on and transfer it to different computers...
Could i just put the files on it?
and to put the files on it should i just download them to desktop then click and trag them into it?

Cleaning the cache/temp...ect.... can be done...with just a few clicks using...Ccleaner

Careful though....Click on "Registry" and UNCHECK ALL .......Registry adjustments are critical by nature

Then you may click "Cleaner" / "Windows" and check all EXCEPT the "Advanced" section.

Then click "Applications" and check them all.

Use your personal judgment for the particulars and you are off to cleaning in just a few clicks!

The only Registry "cleaner" that I personally use is Windows LiveOne Care

MS created the system....They "should/might" know how to clean it.

Don't forget to click "No", after the scan is completed, for permanent protection........

are you asking how to put the music on your USB?
To do that cut and paste it onto your USB.
To do that find the musics that you want to put into your USB, Press Shift and then click all the music(that means to higlight) that you want to save to your USB. press ctrl+X to cut and then press ctrl+V to paste it onto your USB.

Go to My computer
Right click on your local drive(usually C) and click properties.
That will show you how much free space you have left.

How many Megs did Ccleaner delete...?

Mind you...This can be done several times a day.

It would be interesting to know how much total space you have on your hard drive, and how much is "free" or not used after following ExtremeBoy's instructions about how to check.

To check how much free space you have on your Windows PC (assuming you have windows, Google it if you don't)

Open "My Computer"
Right click on your main drive (usually C:)
Click "Properties"

and in the Properties window it will show a pie graph and numbers above it showing the total, free, and used space on your computer.

This can be done for any drive (even your USB drive)

yah... you can have a free space of your hard disk if you usually clean up your hard disk.. delete all your temporary files.. and also check time to time your disk space..
