Help! Sorry if this is a bit long winded - but it has been driving me nuts for 4 days now.

I have a Belkin USB wireless adapter F5D7050 that has been working fine under Windows XP SP2 for some time. Recently the mouse started to lock up and/or only move erratically. A reboot sometimes fixed it. Then the mouse started to freeze completely. Tried different mice (USB optical and PS2) - the PS2 one would work side to side and would very slowly move upwards - the USB froze solid.

I found that if I removed the USB wireless adapter, the mouse went back to normal. Replaced the adapter, it froze again. So, searched different forums and found that use wireless adapters can sometimes cause problems with a mouse - but I can't find a fix!!!

I have tried various things - removed/disabled all unnecessary software and processes, updated drivers, removed/disabled all bar the mouse, keyboard (ps2) and the adapter (unplugged all ther USB items and disabled on board sound). No change at all. I thought maybe that Windows Update had installed something that tripped up the adapter - so I reinstalled Windows from scratch. No change at all!

At this point I noticed that the mouse works normally, right up to the point when Windows confirms that it has set up the new adapter correctly - and then it freezes. With the optical mouse, you can actually see the red LED go out at this point. If I unplug the adapter, the light comes back on, and the mouse is fine.

Belkin support, were polite, but say they are not familiar with this problem, and as the adapter works fine in one of my other PCs. referred me to my PC vendor (which would be me, as I built it).

Any help would be appreciated.

Well, I seemed to have worked around the problem - but I still don't know what caused the original problem (greedy I know). Anybody any ideas?

The fix was to put a separate PCI USB 2.0 hub card into the computer and plug the Belkin wireless adapter into that. What was wrong with my old USB sockets? Actually nothing seems to be wrong with them, I am still using them for the mouse, a printer and a scanner - but not for the Belkin wireless adapter. Could it be a simple fault with the m'board USB sockets? Some sort of voltage problem?
