Hi all,

This is my first time on here, and I hope that somebody can help me! I just came back from vacation, and whilst away, I bought a memory card reader so that I could clear my SD cards onto my laptop to open up space.

All the files that I downloaded using the reader will not open. The videos give me an error of "Error-2048: Couldn't open the <file name.MOV> because it is not a file that QuickTime understands", and for photod I get "Couldn't display <file name.jpg> because a suitable graphics importer could not be found."...and I've tried downloading different viewing programs, and nothing works. Even Windows Picture and Fax Viewer just tells me that there is "no preview available".

I am running XP Home edition. I am desperate to be able to save these photos etc... if possible. I mean they're not from somewhere that I will be again soon.

Please help!

Much appreciated,
Grazzhoppa

What kind of camera do you use (did you use)? Make and model would be nice so I can look it up. I've come across errors like this before and have had to download drivers and programs from the camera manufacturer's site that are specific to that camera.

Please tell me that you copied the images to your computer, leaving an original copy on your SD card in your camera......please! blink.gif

The camera is a Pentax W30..

I WISH I had left the files on the SD card, but the whole point of the memory card reader was so that I could delete and take more photos/video, which I did! AHHHH, it's making me crazy, I am so worried about this!

I tried this and unfortunately no luck. Thanks for the idea though!

did you have the camera set to .RAW format?
need special software for .RAW files,

Did any computer software come with the camera/memory card reader?

Have you read either of the manuals?

I saw something similar happen and it seemed that IrfanView could open the files when other things couldn't. Opening the files with IrfanView and then doing a SaveAs a jpeg again with a new name created a file that could be opened with the other programs. IrfanView is free for non-commercial use and available here: http://www.irfanview.net/

I hope that helps,
Kevin
