I'm trying to register a domain name and find a host. I'm new to this whole game and this is my first time setting up a site.
I've looked into a few providers but got completely confused. It's just like finding a good phone contract - ie impossible ohmy.gif

I need a company that can give me .com AND .co.uk for the same name. After that I'm not sure what else to look for though.
I need enough space for a 7-10 page site which will have audio and embedded links to google video.
So I have no idea what gig I need to get.

I've looked at godaddy.com but have heared really bad things but I can't find anyone else who does .com and .co.uk

Can anyone help? I'm really quite confused!

Thanks

I've had godaddy for the past four years. I have nothing bad to say about them. My site has never gone down and it does not cost much and you can find promo codes on the net to get discounts. If you get there hosting you get alot of extras like Emails and some other fun stuff. The only thing It does not have is Cpanel but if your just going to put up a few pages check out the hosting specs and see if it will work for you. I would stay with godaddy but I might change because I want Cpanel.

i think you can only register a .co.uk with a British provider, don't worry there lots of them,

any host provider will supply you with a .com domain
i always tell my friends to always look for a host with a telephone help line especially if they are new to the game, broke that rule myself last time because A: i know what I'm doing now, and B: i was looking for the fastest host out there to run a large flash site.
if you are hosting video and music you'll need a fast host and plenty of space and band width,
i recommend http://www.reacthosting.com/ they have an excellent email help line
speed so the videos run smoothly, space = the amount of stuff you can put on the site, bandwidth = the amount of people that can view the videos, ever gone to a site that was there one day and gone the next? they prolly ran out of band width for that month, a few options for this, automatically up your band width if you run out, you'll be charged monthly for this, option two by more band width from the host,
buy 12 months at a time works out a lot cheaper and many hosts will throw in a free domain name,
start small/cheap and if you find you are running out of space upgrade to the next package
hope this answers a few questions for you
Computer Parts
I really like www.pimahost.com if your site can use Linux hosting. They have fast hosting at good prices and have a techinal staff that is quite helpful. Tell them Gregg from www.PerformanceComputerParts.com sent you.

i use 1and1 http://1and1.com they also have a british hosting solution: http://1and1.co.uk

they are good, only failure ive noticed is their support its not 100%, i dont mind as i rarely need support and their prices are quite competitive,

I have also used hostgator http://hostgator.com (not sure about co.uk here) they are much better on support, not quite sure why im not there now... lol
