I have a HP 855c, originally came with ME. I upgraded to XP. The current problem is that the machine will not start up. When I press the ON button the HP screen comes up, 30 seconds or so, then a couple of clicks from the CPU and the I get the message" LOAD ERROR PRESS A KEY TO REBOOT..." When I press a key to reboot the message just reappears. I have shut the machine down and same results. I even used the original recovery CD and did a complete reformat and installation and got the same results. I am now at a complete loss. Please help me with a direction to go. This is my High School student computer and if I don't get it up and running soon, I will be out the purchase price of a new computer

Are you sure about that model number?

If you are hearing clicking noises its probably an issue with the hard drive. You could try doing a scandisk. Do it with the option to automatically fix errors turned off. In that case you will see an error message when a problem is encountered. Make sure the thorough option is enabled.

Thanks,

I can't get it to even come up to the point of being able run Scan Disk. Any ideas on what next.
