Full Version: Inserting An Image Within A Post

Scarlett
In order to insert an image within a post. First you must save it to your Hard Drive.

> Right click on image of choice
> Left click on > save as

> clear box and name as you wish.
> click on > save
> It will now be saved on to your Hard Drive

You will now need to Host the image at a Photo Hosting Site.

I use and recommend Photobucket. It is a great photo hosting site, plus registration is free. Unless of course, you choose the premium service.

> Go to Photobucket
> Sign up > log-in
> Click on the > browse button. Find your image and then click > submit.

> You will then see your pic uploaded

> Three links will show under the image itself.

> Sample Album

> For a small to medium size image. Copy the IMG link.

> IMG Example:

> For a large image. Copy the URL
> This saves on bandwidth. Pages will also load much faster for those on dial-up.

> URL Example: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v317/sca...18/IMG00057.jpg

> Paste the link into your post

> Note: Actually for images that are quite large, as in desktop screenshots. I use the photo hosting site ImageShack. Which is a free service as well. Since it allows a maximum image size of 1024 kb. Photobucket has a maximum allowance of only 250 kb. They will be re-sized if they are larger. And the image will not be as crisp.

ImageShack

Click on Register in the top right hand corner.
Check your e-mail for your activation link
Click on > Browse
Then click on > Host It
Then click on the link > My Images
You will now see that your image has been uploaded.
> copy eiether the Thumbnail Code for forums. The thumbnail code will create a clickable thumbnail.

Example: Clickable Thumbnail

> Or the Direct code. Just under the thumbnail code.

Example: Direct http://img340.imageshack.us/img340/9320/thimg000573fi.jpg

Now if you wish to insert a signature or a small image, that will show in all of your posts. You must do this.

> Copy the IMG link
> Go to your Control Panel @ Bleeping Computer
> On the left hand side go to> Personal Profile > Edit Signature
> For a signature > Paste the IMG link in the text box
> To insert a small image > Paste the IMG link eiether before or after your Signature
> For eiether choice > Click on Update Signature

Note: Images in signatures must also be no larger than 500 pixels wide X 90 pixels high. Also please keep in mind that offensive content is prohibited. This applies to both text and image's.

Hi.. this is an excellent help. I have one question tho'. What size in copnsidered small, medium or large?
Thanks... Love your nails LOL
Scarlett
Thank you. smile.gif

Small is an avatar or signature, for example.
Medium is like the example I have given above, of the signature. Or a screenshot of an error or something of that size/nature.

Large would be an entire screen shot.
(As in the clickable thumbnail of the scenery I have given above.)
Place your curser on the thumbnail. Of the scenery and left click.
Or any image that is much larger than the signature.

Got it thanks clapping.gif I was wondering after I posted 2 pix as to whether I was in the proper areas...

Hi Scarlett, I am having some difficulties here. I read all of your instructions here, but they don't want to work for me.

I know that that is the way that I copy things all of the time, but it just wont work with what I am trying to do.

Grinler is helping me with a problem that I am having. I have been trying to follow his advice, however, when I do I am not seeing the same thing that he told me I should be seeing.

So I want to make a screen capture thingy to post for him to see what I am looking at. I know that there is another way to snag what I'm looking at on the screen, and it has to do with using the "PrtScrn/SysRq" key in combination with one or two other keys.

Do you know how to do that?

Not to worry! I got it figured out.

Thanks
Wendy

How to take and share a screen shot in Windows

Hello Scarlett thumbup.gif

I was trying to insert an image for maybe 2 months now, everybody gave me instructions, but it wasn't worked. Now I found Your explanations, and I succeded to insert my very first image, and I'm very, VERY thankfull for that. I'm not very good in computer stuff, so it was a great help, thank you!!!

But I would have a few questions:

@ I inserted a picture using Photobucket on another Forum, and when I posted it appeared twice, it was a thumbnail too, and the funny thing is that I have even no idea (yet) , how to insert a thumbnail.
So, could You tell me what happened, please?

@ what is a Thumbnail Code? ...please give me an Example

@ why I can't insert a pic from MY OWN computer, why it have to be uploaded on Photobucket first??

Thank you in addvance for your help.

You are so welcome! I am so thrilled that I was able to help. wink.gif

1. I'm not quite sure how to answer the first question.
Unless the two thumbnails that you posted on another forum
was on Bleeping Computer. If so I can click '"edit" on the particular post.
And then be able to view the code. Did you post on Bleeping Computer?
Please give me the link and Ill look in to it. O.K. ?

2.
CODE
[url=http://img169.imageshack.us/my.php?image=mbawallpaper1024jellyfish5xe.jpg][img]http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/3139/mbawallpaper1024jellyfish5xe.th.jpg[/img][/url]

Will give you a clickable thumbnail.

3. Most forums do not allow members to insert upload images from thier own computer,
as it uses the sites bandwidth. Some do though allow members to attach images.
It is refered as global attachment space. Bleeping Computer is not one of them.
We prefer members to use a photo hosting site such as Photobucket or Imageshack.

On Photobucket If you want a clickable thumbnail inserted. You need to place a check in the box underneath the image you are choosing and then scroll down to the bottom of the page. There will be an option of Generate HTML and Image Code Click on that and on the page you are then directed to,
you will now look for:

IMG clickable thumbnails for message boards - recommended
It will be the third choice down.

CODE
[URL=http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v317/scarlett_618/IMG00057.jpg][IMG]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v317/scarlett_618/th_IMG00057.jpg[/IMG][/URL]

Copy and paste the thumbnail code into your post reply box.

* And it is prefered that members use the clickable thumbnail code
or the direct code (explained above in the opening post of this thread) )
to insert images that are large. It is easier for those on dialup to load the pages.

Hello again, Scarlett
Thank you for your time and for helping me

---that picture was posted on another Forum, not on BleepingComp.
Now, maybe you will laugh (and please do ), but they allow us to insert upload images from our computer, only that I don't know how to do that. Well, I upload the picture, but what to do next....?????
Theoretically, I know that I have to type the image adress, but I can't find it....
(and I can't ask those Forum members, coz they over and over make funny of me, so I had inaff...)

----the worst part just begins, coz on the Photobucket the ONLY adress that works for me is the URL....
....on " Generate HTML and Image Code" no one works, when I paste them and I make prewiev, it appears just the TEXT. Maybe I have some wrong computer settings, I don't know....

Well, I'm happy that at least that URL from Photobucket works, it means that I can insert pictures, and I'm very greatfull to you for that.

This is a great site, I'm happy that I found it, coz working with computer is a mistery for me...
I hope I'll learn much here....

I am trying to attach a log of Hijack this to my original HELP message. For some reason I can't copy/paste it to the post. It is driving me crazzy.
I can copy but I can't right click to paste. UGHHHH
tg1911
Try using Ctrl+V, to paste.
ryazmom
Thanks but I tried the CTLR-Paste too. I ended up opening BP with Firefox, then there was the 'browse link' to upload my hijack log.
Now the wait to get help for my problems!
Thanks

Hi Scarlett

I posted the below image but it doesn't actually show as an image just as what you see below.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks

You're not using the right tags, nat.
When you type out your post, it should look like what I have in the Code box:
CODE
[img]http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t96/nct35/image.jpg[/img]

Notice the img tags.
That will give you this:
nat

Thanks TG1911

I have posted images successfully before, so couldn't work out why this wasn't working.

In Photobucket I copied the URL Link option not the IMG Code !! Duh!

Cheers

Glad to be of help.

If you are using Ubuntu, you have less steps to walk through.

step1.gif Simply press "Print Screen."

step2.gif When the pop-up comes up, save the screenshot to your desktop.

step3.gif Open up Firefox and navigate to http://imageshack.us (or any other image hosting) and follow their uploading instructions.
