Well I just recently reinstalled XP and wanted to know stuff about SP3 before updating. I was reading about it and it was available from my automatic updates but I did not update for I did some research that said it causes problems with AMD processors and I am using a Dell Vostro 1000 with an AMD Athlon 64x2 Processor...Should I update or no?

I downloaded and installed the 316MB admin install 3 weeks ago, I have an amd 64x1 cpu, I have followed this amd glitch in 5 forums

http://msinfluentials.com/blogs/jesper/arc...ing-xp-sp3.aspx

as usual this mvp, Doug Knox and Bill Castner, both old time ms-mvp's are way out ahead of MS on this one.

the best feature I have found so far is where widows file protection has built a ready made file check in my windows folder of an updated I386 folder for using sfc scannow with.

As with any service pack I reccomend a clean boot with as little as possible loading, turning off all antivirus and media components

that might be an issue since you have to fool sp2 to do that,
I would uninstall it and try to reinstall later

another issue with sp3, they reccomend your system be sqeaky clean, no malware, I had a few shell glitches leftover from 2 previous infections, they seem to have been fixed
