I am seesawing on this one.
There is no doubt that the Internet can be a dangerous place for youngsters and measures are needed to keep them safe, but is this going too far?

I think whether you use such an application or not depends on how much you trust your children and how much you have taught them about on-line safety---and, of course, their age and maturity. I would hope that parents would rely more upon actively teaching their children than upon a technical application, which is, after all, just a "quick fix."

To simplify and start analyzing this issue. You need to look at the core of how you react to an issue. When confronted with something that needs your participation or action. Do you tend to be proactive or reactive?
So given those are the two primary motivators for taking action. Being proactive would include taking steps to actively insert yourself in the monitoring equation. Being reactive would consist of applying a band aid application and letting a faceless inanimate program or application do the job.
Now that you have the information. The choice is yours, Proactive or Reactive.
