Well first of all I have Windows Vista Home Basic Package. 32-bit operating system, Its a Compaq Presario C500 Laptop, Intel Celeron M CPU 430 @ 1.73GHz. I have recently installed AVG FREE anti-virus, and Comdo Firewall. I have completely uninstalled AOL 9.0 VR from my computer and I am now using Windows internet explorer instead for internet use. But my problem is that now i can't view videos on my Windows Media Player. So I tried installing RealPlayer on my computer. But everytime I try to install it my computer pops up with this "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." So what I did was I created another user account on my PC and set it as administrator. Which my already existing one is already set as administrator. But it still came up as the samething. Also its just not with RealPlayer its with anything I try and download onto my computer. So I have no clue were to go from here. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

My first guess is to make sure that both Comodo and AVG aren't restricting you.

Second...right click on Windows Media Player, choose properties, then click the 'securities' tab.
At the bottom, click on the link, "Learn about access control and Permission".

ok I dont think comodo or AVG free are blocking me. And I checked the Learn about access control and permission. But I dont really know what I am really looking for in there? If you could help me that would be great and sorry if I am a pain in the butt lol.

Try this... go to C:/program files/ windows media player/ setup_wm.exe
Right click on setup_wm.exe, choose to run as administrator. This hopefully will reset WMP back as your default player.

I wonder if there's an older version of any of the different players on your system (Shockwave, RealPlayer, Flash, etc) that could be causing this. Try updating all the addons that play things in your browser to see if that's the issue.

Ok Jacee, I went ran that link in my run screen and the screen popped up for windows media player but it said i cant use a older version of windows media player installor to fix a newer version of windows media player. So i dont know what to do now?????

And to Usasma how do i go about finding out if i have any of those???? I tried doin a search but nothin came up. maybe im not doin something right. I dont know lol sorry but I only know so much about computers.

Sorry for the sparse information - but there's a bunch of things that could be causing this.

I'd first suggest a couple of these free, online scans to ensure that there's no malware on the system.

Be advised that some of these scanners will pickup things in "quarantine" from other anti-virus programs - so review the results carefully:

Ok Im really really sorry i havent been on here FOREVER!!!! Just been really really busy with life. But anyways. I tried running those scans you said to run. And one or two of them would run because computer wont let me run as Administrator. BUt from what those computer scanners said there was nothing found on my computer. So where do i go from here. And sorry again that i havent responed earlier. Thanks again all for helping me i appreciate it.
