Help please. I'm a novice at web site design. used Front Page many many years ago, but recently was gicen a copy of Dreamweaver MX. Tried and tried, but sorry its just too complicated for me.

Would someone recommend a good web authoring tool. Pref WYSIWYG as its primary but with HTML also.

My recommend is KompoZer from Kompozer.net. It is free, open source, cross-platform and easy to use.
The most recent release improved the usefulness of the CSS editor.
There is a comprehensive User Guide, tutorials and support forum.

I too use Kompozer. Didn't know there was a Windows version too. It's excellent.

I reccommend you persevere with DW MX, it will be worth it in the end. the complexity fades away when you only use the functions that you understand and are within your capabilities.

If you Google for dreamweaver tutorials there will be the world of choice online. Also, if I remember correctly, there is a Tutorial built into DW MX that takes you by the hand and leads you painlessly into the groove.

Dreamweaver is indeed an excellent tool.

I've also heard very good things about NVu, though I haven't tried it myself.

dreamweaver mx has been superseded twice now, but if it's more than you need then stick with it, any dreamweaver is a fantastic program (choice of the pro's) what i'm trying to say is it's an out dated program so you should be able to get top tutorials on CD/DVD very cheep now, try ebay (i always do) look out for linda.com or total training they are the best, i use them all the time.

Dreamweaver is what I have been using. Its hard to use at first but when you get use to it, it's easy. I hardly have to look at the code.

You could try BlueVoda, its a wysiwyg and it's really easy and have all the little tutorials with it taking you every step of the way

Thanks for the suggestions. I've had a look at some of the options, but as sme recommended, I'm going to stick it out with Dreamweaver for a bit longer. I've Googled for online tutorials and there's loads, but if anyone has a specific recommedation I'd appreciate it.

I have been using Dreamweaver for about a year now and i like it better that NVU. I suggest you get the book called Dreamweaver MX 2004 The Missing Manual, it sure helped me out when I needed it.

Several people mentioned NVU, its out of date and has been replaced by KompoZer. So if anyone is using it they should upgrade.

Dreamweaver would be best if you can learn to do it. Unfortunately it needs a lot of features because other wise it would be very hard to do serious work with it.

Personally I prefer using a text editor, but I am a nerd
